Smith, Pollock to captain World XI teams
August 23, 2005 - 2:44PM

South Africans Graeme Smith and Shaun Pollock will captain the two World XI cricket teams in October's Super Series against Australia.

The 13-man Test squad and the 14-man one-day squad were named in Melbourne.

Pollock will lead the one-day side in three matches at Melbourne's Telstra Dome on October 5, 7 and 9, while Smith will lead the Test team in a six-day Test at the SCG from October 14.

The two sides will form formidable opposition for Australia, with stars such as West Indian batsman Brian Lara and Sri Lankan spinning genius Muttiah Muralitharan in the two sides.

English allrounder Andrew Flintoff, currently starring in the Ashes, was also named in the two teams.

Teammate Kevin Pietersen made the one-day team and English paceman Steve Harmison will form part of the Test attack.

Altogether, nine players were selected in both the Test and one-day teams.

Australia will name its teams after the Ashes series.

We're ****ed!! Might be a chance in the one-dayers with some luck but there's no way they can bowl that test line up out twice, even in 6 days.

we will win the test in 4 days, the only batsmen worth a pinch of the proverbial against spin in that mob are Lara and Dravid. Tendulkar is sadly out of form and hasnt played much but could also trouble us.

Its in Sydney and Warne and MacGill will go through them no trouble at all.

murali chucker will be difficult and will prob unveil a new pitchers curve ball that is due to an in grown toenail on his right foot

it defo looks like a strong team coming against us aussies but if you look head to head it doesnt seem as harder task with the test-warny is better the Muttiah Muralitharan not bye much..mcgrah is better then Shaun Pollock...and brett lee is more consistent now then Shoaib Akhtar..thats just the bowling .. but atm im more worried about our batsmen being slaughterd,if we can make some tuff choices now and start bye rewarding good form then maybe we will have a chance beating the world 11.and unlike the tour atm this time its in aus
