Here is a fun stat, of his 159 first grade games he has started 39.

Majority of those with Penrith in 2014 and 2015.

I'd definitely have Lawton ahead and perfer Gordon to have a run
I would be ecstatic if Gordon is given a Go . There is a dynamic dimension about him

From what i had seen from Segeyaro he added punch when he came from the bench

Segeyaro could be a good depth signing for us. I don't think he will much more than that, but he will provide reasonable backup and cover for Croker and Lawton. I'm not overly excited by this but I don't see massive downside either. Off field idiocy is probably the biggest risk.

I don't see off-field idiocy as a risk; I see it as a near certainty. If it was on-field ability only that was to be considered, sure, take the punt. But we have a lot of young pups in our squad that I would not let JS anywhere near. So I see huge downside bringing someone of Segeyaro's repute into our squad.

Personally, I am not that concerned at all about our no.9 stocks assuming there is no major injury. I've said on other threads that I see patience and defensive resilience as the keys to our success this year.

In terms of injury cover, if one of Croker or Lawton get a long term injury then we can assess the market options at that time - it's useful to keep a squad spot or two up our sleeve as a major injury might strike elsewhere. I am also the coaching staff have been spending the off-season building on their contingencies, which I think probably includes Walker.

We are in a great position where we can be patient with recruitment and not make speculative acquisitions.

I think there is a reasonable chance that this signing is a done deal. Based on Des's recent signing successes, he is obviously seeing more upside in Segeyaro than we can see. If we have signed him then good luck to him.

This can now be merged with the ‘Monday Buzz’ thread.
Is it really a done deal?

Maybe not, in recent years, he's become a businessman (albeit Norman is one of his partners)

If it is him, it is completely in character for him to say publicly "I've got a contract" before the club is ready to make the announcement.

Well sounds like this is happening.

Hope it is a one year deal on the minimum.

Beyond that, time to get behind him and hope he does well

Got a bit of a history.

2009 at age 17 sacked from Souths U20s after drinking too much
2010 capitains Cowboys U20s and gets selected in the Junior Kangaroos
2014 Dally M hooker of the year for the Panthers
2019 caught drink driving with a reading under 0.05 on a provisional license
2021 involved in a street brawl in Cronulla alongside Corey Norman.
Suspended for 20 months (back dated) for testing positive to steroids.

Some good, some bad. Hopefully the time out of the game has allowed him to reflect and grow. Safe to say we are his last chance saloon. Hope we get to see the best of him.

Congratulations to the Shrewd Sea eagles for this Great value signing

James will will add experience , versatility and energy to our number nine options

Very happy about this news !
