This year there are two 'made up' teams. a) Team North America (team young guns) and b) Team Europe

They will take on the top six consisting of:

1) Canada


2) USA
3)Sweden
4)Finland
5)Russia
6)Czech Republic.

Warm up games have been going on. usa and canada have split their two games and last night team north america beat team europe.

Going to be good hockey coming up!

Team Europe defeated the usa 3-0 earlier today....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH suck it torterella!

And Canada are about to play the Czech republic!

north America (team young guns as they have to be under 24 years old) beat finland 4-1

Anyway:

2 groups of 4 teams.

They play each other once

Top 2 teams of each group go through to the semis

Winners of each group play the runner ups of the other group in an elimination.

The winners from that face off in a best of three final series!

well.....torts (usa coach) said that the goal of the usa selections was to pick a team that could beat Canada.

So after a shock loss to team europe they needed to live up to all their hype about grit over skill yadda yadda yadda and win to keep in the series.

Canada 4
Usa 2

Sweden also beat finland 2-0

So the fins couldn't do the near impossible and beat russia. They went down 3-0. In fact Finland only scored one goal the whole tournament.

And did the USA reclaim any pride with a victory over the czech republic?
Nope, they lost 4-3 (lol) meaning the team that was picked to beat Canada....didn't do that nor win a single game!

So....the semi's....

Canada take on huuuuge rivals Russia, and
Sweden take on (the rest of) Europe.

Should be good!

Well...the first semi final was played today...

Canada v Russia. The old rivalry, the ol enemy from the summit series, the ole...well you get it.

first period. - a bit rough but Canada soon found their feet and went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
2nd period - a 2 goal burst and Russia were in the lead 2-1. Canada had only been behind for 1 min 30 seconds in the whole tournament!

Canada seemed to dominate everything with shots on goal just sliding wide or hitting the post. Russia on the other hand made the best of their limited shots.

Canada score late to even it up 2-2.

3rd and final period - And three goals in 10 minutes give Canada an all but unassailable 5-2 lead.

A dodgy Russian goal (hand pass) in the final seconds whilst playing an empty net got Russia up to 5-3 but that was it.

Team Europe v Sweden tomorrow!

Winner will play Canada in a best of three for the world cup!

Team Europe defeat Sweden in the semi finals with an overtime goal!!!

The team written off pre tournament continued to impress making it all the way to the finals against world dominant Canada.

It's a best of three final series and whilst most are predicting a 2-0 win to Canada (after all, they defeated Team Europe 4-1 in the preliminaries) it would be a brave team to take team Europe lightly.

In other news, ge went to the canucks training camp today. Watched an entertaining scrimmage!

Well game one is done and dusted in the best of three final series between team Canada and team Europe.

Canada went to an early 2-0 lead but Europe kept plugging away.

A second period of goofiness from the Canadians allowed team Europe to get one goal back and a 2-1 scoreline ensued.

Eventually Canada got out of second gear, scored one more goal and the game finished 3-1.

You can almost guarantee Canada will play better in the second game as they wont be happy with their first.

Oh and .....no ref controversies (as usual.)

15 wins in a row for team Canada.

Game 2 in the best of three series between canada and europe has been played and won!

In the first period team europe went to a 1-0 lead and boy oh boy...did Canda suck balls in this game.

Turnovers, missed shots, fanning, crap positioning....

it was like they'd been told to lose to make one hell of a finale (state of origin anyone?)

It was just terrible to watch and amazingly Europe couldn't score at will.

Then at the 57th minute of a 60 minute game somehow team canada shanked a goal and it was 1-1.

But canada gave away a penalty so europe went on the power play.

somehow Canada managed to score a short handed goal (marchand) and within 2 minutes Canada took a 2-1 lead.

With only seconds remaining, europe couldn't equalise and so Canada become world cup champions.

They sucked but somehow managed to win with 2 good minutes out of 60!
