Tom Trbojebic - safe

Jorge Taufua - safe

Brian Kelly - off contract, should be retained and not hugely expensive

Dylan Walker - all but safe - rumoured to be heading back to Souths. Let him go I say, was brought across on 5/8 money and doesnt look the same post injury. to be replaced by Suli

Aquila Uate - Gone, has been horrible this year and is past it. Taking up $500k of our salary cap Replace with someone cheaper and younger like Reuben Garrick, Robert Jennings, George Jennings or Tom Opacic

Lachlan Croker - in doubt - has been very ordinary could be retained in the squad for depth provided he doesn’t expect an upgrade. Personally would move along and elevate Metcalfe.

Daly Cherry-Evans - Safe

Martin Taupau - Safe

Api Koroisau - all but safe - could be some salary cap room to be had here if the club wanted to be a bit devious and snare Segeyaro on half the price to do much the same job and play Fainu off the bench with an eye to the future. Also appears to be clashing with DCE on the field, I know this will be unpopular around here but I’d be moving him on.

Addin Fonua-Blake - Safe hopefully can be moved back to the bench where he is one of the most damaging impact forwards in the NRL

Joel Thompson - Safe

Curtis Sironen - All but safe. Has been good without being great. Still has a lot of unfulfilled potential and needs to fix some lapses. Would be re-visiting terms of contract upgrade in light of another season ending knee injury.

Jake Trbojevic - Safe

Lewis Brown - Gone - would look at bringing Buhrer home to replace him. Has gone a fair way backwards in Newcastle’s pecking order and would essentially be a like for like swap.

Shaun Lane - off contract - should be retained, very modest upgrade if anything.

Kelepi Tanginoa - off contract - should be retained, played very well when fit but in light of serious injury will not receive an upgrade.

Lloyd Perrett - Safe - Reggies depth - Plodder

Jack Gosiewski - off contract - should be retained with probably a modest upgrade has showed some good stuff in a few very poor team performances with limited opportunities.

Matt Wright - Safe - covers 1-6 very capably and always tries 100%. Needs to get rid of the maroon hair.

Jonathan Wright - Gone - replaced by whoever takes it at Blacktown. (Anderson, Loko, Folau) or take a punt on a redemption story in Sandor Earl.

Tevita Funa - in doubt - not off contract but as he’s on a minimum contract can be replaced by someone else on a minimum contract who may add more value. Place taken by Manase Fainu

Tom Wright - Safe - still so much potential worth persisting until he matures a little.

Tofoa Sipley - Safe - not yet seen in 1st grade so must not be setting the world on fire, however still young with a lot of improvement in him. Not taking up a huge chunk of the cap.

Brad Parker - Safe

Taniela Paseka - Safe

Jackson Hastings - Gone - is on $400k probably enough for us to bring in Hodkinson as a straight swap who has been excellent when filling in for the Sharks this year. Perfect foil for DCE.

Darcy Lussick - Gone - $400k - replaced by Korbin Sims

Nate Myles - Gone - finally this parasite and his $500k per year retirement fund can die! - replaced by Josh Papali or Alex walmsley

Frank Winterstein - all but safe - contracted unfortunately, appears to have fallen out of favour and seems to have gone backwards this year. Would look to push him out to ESL.

30th spot - Joel Moon to cover inexperienced Kelly and Suli

Which makes the squad:

Tom Trbojevic, Jorge Taufua, Reuben Garrick, Jade Anderson, Brad Parker, Matt Wright, Brian Kelly, Moses Suli, Joel Moon, Trent Hodkinson, Daly Cherry Evans, Tom Wright, Luke Metcalfe, Manase Fainu, James Segeyaro, Martin Taupau, Addin Fonua-Blake, Alex Walmsley, Korbin Sims, Shaun Lane, Kelepi Tanginoa, Taniela Paseka, Lloyd Perrett, Tofoa Sipley, Jake Trbojevic, Joel Thompson, Curtis Sironen, Jamie Buhrer, Jack Gosiewski, Frank Winterstein

I must have missed where we signed Segeyaro, Hodkinson, Simms, Moon and Walmsley 😉

Wamsley won't be playing anytime soon Broke a bone in his neck recently

Matt Wright, Perrett and Winterstein can go as well Another clean out at the end of the season Croker can go as well because apparently we are after Tyronne Roberts and Mason Lino

Never suggested they had been signed, they are merely who I’m putting forward as my suggestions for signing targets.

In regards to Walmsley that is exactly why we are a chance of signing him at a respectable price, medical advice is he will be back stronger than ever.

Pretty good summary and agree in most part.
Myles, Brown, Uate out with Croker on a thread that could be cut any time unless an immaculate improvement.
I have a bit more opinion of Perrett who needs a prod, but is very handy off the bench with the right mix up front.
Young Anderson is a few steps ahead of Falou and Loko who are good backup in Blacktown.
Would not bring back Buhrer, was great years ago but feel best is gone though defs an upgrade to Brown....prefer a youngster looking for an opportunity up front.
Agree 100% that Kelly and Suli will be long term Manly players and though a massive fan of Walker, if there is any truth to be considering going back to Souths, let him - but likely more media BS as he has played great since getting his centre role at Manly.
Certainly like the Papalli options at the right price and believe Korbin Sims is a good show to be a Seaeagle in 2019.
Fainu, T. Wright and Anderson will be strong considerations in 2019 and all have big futures imo.
In truth, apart from some recent Attitude problems are only a few key signings and releasing dead wood from being a very strong side.

Joel moon wants 100k to come back to the nrl I like the idea of giving him a shot. I mean look at gelling for the warriors, he has come back solid for the warriors and moon has twice the ability. I disagree with Matt wright, he should be let go and one of a young players to take his sport and relieve some salary cap pressure. I agree on the Api point. Walker is a must in my eyes to stay. Suli on the wing or in for Kelly worst case scenario. I like the look of Scott sorenson, very much a Brenton Lawrence replica. Other players I’d like to mention in terms of cheapish recruitment options include.. jacks, Croft, matagi, leota, mcilwrick, butcher, Egan. I would even consider looking at Oates as a back rower I believe he has more than it takes to become a premier second row.. speed and size

Again...Uate was on $500K a year AT THE KNIGHTS. He was booted to Reggies because they wanted his salary off the books. They paid half of his salary last year, as he was still on contract. We employ him this year on a contract drawn up by us, NOT what he was deemed to be worth five years ago by the Knights when he was (briefly) the most damaging winger in the game. We do NOT pay Uate $500K a year.

We need a centre , 5/8 , winger and prop . Pretty well the same as this year. Dce , Api , Marty , Turbos ,Thompson ,Siro , Walker , Jetski , Jorge and Afb safe . Build team with these cats and get rid of the dogs. Brown , Wright , J Wright , kelly , Uate , Croker , Perrett, Lane all gone .

We need an experienced prop forward to lead the pack around. We need 2 wingers who can catch bombs and be a threat when we are kicking to score tries. We need a five eighth who can help out DCE with all the tactical kicking. My preference is to keep as many of the younger players as possible, time to move on ageing reserve graders!!

Hodkinson has not been good at the Sharks, if you wanted a goal kicking half you would chase Flanagan

Also Sorenson.....plodder

I don't agree with getting rid of Lane & Kelly, both not on big money and this year have been two of our best ... look at MVP 😉

Kelly signed a 2 yr deal for 18-19 and was released in 17 to come a yr early so he is contracted until end of next yr i thought?

zerotackle has him only contracted this year on $160K
I would think another 2 years on $200K would be great value.

If you could buy attitude that would be the main priority
But you can’t buy that . So if any player can’t play with a better attitude by seasons end then move them on

Agree we let go brown, J.wright, uate, hastings, myles and lussick.
Bring in suli fainu and Anderson.
Buy an experienced starting prop and a quality half. Happy with the rest of the squad
