2026 recruitment & retention

Blake Brailey please . Rejected sharks offer. 26 . Super durable. Great running and passing game . Get him
I would have him over Harry Grant. I think he's the best 9 in the competition. Sure, Grant is the fashionable attacking weapon and is obviously elite but Brailey has better service and plays a more complimentary role to his teammates. Grant goes for the big plays and will often come up with errors and overplay his hand.

Broncos forward knocks back Manly to sign one-year deal

Brisbane forward Kobe Hetherington has backed himself and the club to the hilt after rejecting a three-year deal from Manly to re-sign with the Broncos until the end of 2026.

The 26-year-old has been in hot form to lead the Broncos’ mid-season revival on the back of five wins ahead of Friday night’s clash with Parramatta at Suncorp Stadium.

Hetherington started the season at lock before coach Michael Maguire switched Pat Carrigan back there from prop in round 14.

The past two games, with State of Origin players out, Hetherington started at lock and prop and was outstanding to prove he has a future as a starting middle.

His manager Chris Haddad told AAP that Hetherington was thriving at the Broncos and had set himself an admirable goal. “Manly made an offer for three years, but we have signed a one-year deal to see if Kobe can get his starting lock spot back. He will give it a good shot,” Haddad said.

“Kobe believes the side can win a grand final this year and next year and he wants to be part of that success.” Haddad said his client was satisfied to accept a one-year deal and keep his options open, even though the Broncos were prepared to extend the length of the contract.

“Kobe loves the Broncos, but you never now what will happen in the future,” he said. Hetherington also received interest from St George Illawarra and Canberra.

The son of former Canterbury premiership-winning hooker Jason Hetherington, Kobe is one of captain Adam Reynolds’ favourite players.

Reynolds has likened him to a cattle dog because “he has a bit of mongrel and fight in him like a cattle dog and just keeps going”.

The genesis of his prowess was in a cattle-yard in rural central Queensland. “When Kobe and his twin Zac were five years old I would get them to tackle calves,” Jason Hetherington told AAP recently.

“I’d be doing all the cattle work and with the calves that I’d brand and let through I’d say, ‘go and tackle them boys, wrangle them, jump on them and ride them’. They would get in there and bulldog them and scruff them.”

Kobe was recruited by shrewd Broncos recruitment chief Simon Scanlan.

“The Broncos signed him from a schoolboy game in Rockhampton when Simon Scanlan spotted him and his brother Zac,” Haddad said. “Canterbury came in with interest, and Jason sent Zac to Canterbury and Kobe to Brisbane.”

That’s a shame, more likely trying to get some gravy from the Perth Bears

Fark him then...

Not too sure whether Garner would serve much purpose trying to bring in now ,
Certainly a couple of seasons ago but Burbo is more then holding his own now to complement Ola, Waddell going quite well and maybe one or two up and comer edge players on the Manly top 30 scene soon .
Not sure if he has been experiencing injuries but Garner does not seem to be making that many i st grade appearances the past 12 months or so .
Still has had a fairly solid i st grade career [ Garner ] previously , may have a bit more to offer but unless on a real cut price deal , highly doubtful for Manly
Waddell not NRL standard. Is slow and lacks power.

Yes I’d say he’s being a little smart , 1 year with the Donkeys and then a huge payday with Perth.

It’s really going to be hard to sign quality players with both the Bears & the Kumuls coming into play in the next few years.

HIstorically a new club entering the comp that extra completion, that increased $ added to the pool of players drives up the price of all players. He won't even need to go to the bears to realise a higher yearly figure for future years.

Yeh its a point that needs to be made - these guys aren't necessarily going to Perth - but its more the general scramble for talent and the associated dollars from all the clubs that is causing this.

He's not going anywhere.. more chance the Trbojevic brothers leave us than him leaving the Sharks.
And the Trbojevic are not moving.

He's a local.. his dad works for the club.. they are die hard sharks fans.. the only reason his brother left was because they both played the same position and wanted to be starters.

He would be a brilliant addition to any team.. but the Sharks low balled him because they know he won't go anywhere else.. this is just his manager doing his job.. if TDS is a $650k hooker and Harry Grant is on $850k then Brailey is worth $750+.. not the $400k a year and 2 years the Sharks offered him.

Yes money talks but to get him out of the club you would need to offer at least 5 years and close to $5mill

If the sharks are smart they offer 5 years $4mill and he signs with them
Year 1 $700
Year 2 $750
Year 3 $800
Year 4 $850
Year 5 $900
With an option for a 6th year to keep other clubs away..that takes him to 33/34 years old and he's a one club player

Did they really offer him 400k???

That is outrageous. He should be closer to double that.

Also read that they only have 300 or 350k for Kennedy.

Sharks have plenty of forwards, would they want to release one to free up some space.

We've no chance on the dream of Nikora but could a Colquhoun or Hazelton be released.

I also think Puru has talent.
