2026 recruitment & retention

You guys dont want Klemmer. A Manly mate messaged me last night what I thought of Klemmer, one of those guys that should have put the que in the rack, passed his best and now a plodder.
We don't want him. No fan wants him. Unfortunately, plodders are all the geniuses in our recruitment department are able to get. If we do sign him it is a signal that we have no cap space and have basically already given up on season 2026 before a ball is kicked.

Pretty sure Brian To'o is off contract end of season. If Manly were to get him and replace Saab that would be a solid signing

Manly is the fluffer of the NRL.....

We don't have the vision to sign someone like that. Although barely 1st grade standard this year, Saab was extended and is signed until about 2036.

Not a big fan of Klemmer..however..we have gotten very close to jack**** out of Aloiai,Sipley and James this year.(Who are all leaving)
Klemmer whilst a plodder is an excellent defender, durable and will make metres when given minutes.
I wasn't impressed by Taukeiaho being signed, but have been proven wrong,I will reserve judgement in this signing if true.

Unlike a couple of people here my mail is the club is basically resigned to having the same pack run around next year - that's certainly what it feels like.
Then the joke's on you, susan. Our pack doesn't run so much as it plods, walks and stumbles. After all, it's hard to get up a head of steam when you've got the ball tucked under one arm and a Zimmer frame under the other.

"Run around". That's a good one.

We often reference our “Moneyball” signings, and it honestly couldn’t be more true. Woods, Brown, Klemmer (?), Tevaga, TKO… For those that do not know the reference to Moneyball, you should watch the movie, but I feel Seibs saw this scene and was sold on this approach to recruitment – and to be fair, he’s not wrong, but these type of signings are also not the answer to the problem. Here’s a quote from Billy Beane (aka Anthony Seibold), the GM of the Oakland A’s addressing his recruitment committee:

“The problem we're trying to solve is that this is an unfair game. There are rich teams, poor teams, 50 feet of crap and then there's us. […] If we try to play like the Yankees in here, we're not going to be able to play with them out there.”

Looks like the recruiting grouping are at least trying to bring in young props who have or are showing some promise
Don 't think that it was not long ago that Roosters junior prop and one from the Brissy junior comp, not to include Hart have been signed .
In addition to the current Manly N S W cup prop lads who must be showing some reasonable level of development
Throw in Patolo [ who disappointingly does not seem to be coming on that well this season ] and James who never really improved much from last season but does show some proactivity recruitment wise
Klemmer probably would be in the Brown category right now but think that Brown still has one more season on his deal and just could not justify much money at all for Klemmer even if there was a logical opening for a Manly addition for him

The Roosters junior didn't sign with us

Personally could not care if Seibs stays or goes but would expect to see out 26 but pretty cruel injury outcome when all is said and done and in terms of having a more mobile complexion to a forward line up
Just for example if the best run on pack was available for the majority of the time - Paseka , Alioia or T K O , Ola , Burbo , all quite mobile big men , Only really Jake on the slower side
Bully could be one of the quickest if not the quickest props going around .
Sipp has improved his mobility over time , even Waddell not really in the slow department, Jazz a tough nut who compensates any lack of mobility in other areas
Just really can not compare the current Manly forward pack to the best available when all fit and well

Only 2 of those players have missed significant amounts of games to this point of an ordinary season. You could make a comparison to the one running tonight, but injuries prior to this point,is not an excuse

Guess also that Manly were well in contention for a top 8 finish until recent times and with the forward lineup relatively full strength minus Tent but big out with Haumole for the past 2 or so months
Indifferent to some terrible match outcomes on occasions not really [ or only marginally ] down to whatever forward pack has been available .
I would primarily put it down to the halves and in particular a soon to be leaving 7

He gets on base.
