2026 recruitment & retention

Why am I still hearing slander towards try scoring MACHINE Corey Waddell?

He's on not much money, scores 2 tries, makes 150+ run metres, 2 line breaks, 2 tackle breaks, 31 tackles, no missed tackles... and still cops strays on here. Tough crowd.

He's starting because he's filling in for an $850k edge forward, but when Haumole returns I'd have no problems with Corey as a bench forward in the 17 each week...

Would any other club have him though?

Who are you signing for after your contract expires in 2027?

I'm actually not trying to be (too) funny... 150+ run metres and 31 tackles is by most impartial observer's standards, pretty good output for a forward, regardless of their salary.

Players like Luke Garner, Jack Cogger, Paul Momirovski, Paul Alamoti, Brenko Lee... are all premiership winners in this decade, and people here think that our first grade squad is full of players who would never be signed for any other club.

One thing he has is durability, has rarely missed games throughout his career.
He's probably been putting his best foot forward in recent times as his contract is expiring
I agreed with u matee, we do need some hard instead of soft ****$ out there. We need a Spud that put fear in the opponents bit of grub would b nice indeed what we been missing.

I'm not talking long term maybe 1-2yrs on SH*****@lll wage.

He had a decent game. But that doesn't erase the terrible or many bog average games he's played. If Corey consistently produced the numbers he did on the weekend against the team running 15th he'd be on big bucks. He doesn't though, which is why many are sick of seeing him in the starting side.

Paul Alamoti is a gun. Luke Garner is five times the player Duck is. Cogger was signed as a backup half and trained to play a role by a great coach. Momirovski was a reliable defensive centre who also signed with the Roosters, he wasn't flashy, but he wasn't Waddell ordinary either. Brenko Lee was highly touted and a very powerful ball runner who never reached his potential.

Any side starting Corey Waddell in the forwards won't be winning a premiership.

You will always have average players in Premiership winning sides. If they can do a simple job well then its all that matters as long as it helps bigger star players.
As for Corey, it seems the Bulldogs have moved on pretty well without him, considering he notched up a fair few games as a regular player in the team. He played 22 games for the Bulldogs when they came 15th in 2023.
