Anthony Seibold

How I understand some relationships between attack & defence & effort currently:

1. Attack is built on strategy and creativity. Individual skills dominate. Defence on team structures and attitudes.Weak links are the key.

2. Hitups allow the attack to get a breather, so effort is reduced and spasmodic. And creativity needs a cool, still mind, with too much effort getting in the way.

3. In defence, everyone in the straight line moves up and back every single play. Aerobic fitness is challenged - and effort is needed to keep with the pace.

4. Very different skills and strategies in attack and defence (gives the need for specialist coaches). But defence and attack successes are strongly interconnected. Put the opposition defence under pressure and they lose the energy, possession and position for their set. Nullify the opposition attack and we get a leg-up for our set. This is why teams with better attacks usually have better defences, and vice versa.
People tend to forget go forward comes under attack, attack is not just about points scored or chances we create.

The quality, consistency, punch/explosiveness along with well structured spread options in go forward sets is the most important element combine that with a good attitude and you will have a half decent defence and a good winning percentage.

I haven't studied this but I feel Manly concede most tries when the opposition has the ball, but only a few when we have the ball.
Well if you "haven't studied this" you are not entitled to an opinion until you grasp the finer points lol.(delete the lol so i sound TC Robotic in line with my online personality)

No worries TC I love your work, even if it confuses the **** out of me I still love it, it's just sounds so ........" Official ".

Keep it up buddy.

With all the expensive and flash new training facilities I have to congratulate the Penns on lashing out on Seibold as the new Minister for Defence, as the title of the thread says. Great choice.

Credit where credit is due.

But it's only half the job if they want to make it impregnable. To finish the job, they really also need to appoint a new Minister for Degate.

Sorry guys. It's a long off-season.

We are in Good Hands with Seibs. Hes a Good Bloke to go with it. He's from My Home Club here in Rockhampton. Look forward to catching up with him at one of our after match functions. By the way talking about them which ones are we having in Qld. We will probably be going to the Groncos and Tittans games

From Sporting News: NRL Leaks

There is plenty of talk that Manly assistant coach Anthony Siebold could be on the move at the end of this season.

Siebold, who was also Queensland coach Kevin Walters' assistant, is believed to be at odds with head coach Trent Barrett.

Sea Eagles fans should watch this space closely.

Interesting. If Seibold does go then I hope they can get someone in to improve their defence next year. It has been pretty woeful at times this year. Not sure if Seibold, Barret, both or the team are to blame for this.

Don't get the 'at odds' comment.
Shouldn't defense be a basic skill for the players by the time they get to NRL level 😕

Didn't Baz pick his own coaching Team :wondering:

Good , he's been ****ing useless!!

Let's get Matt Balin. He knows how to defend and will have only just stopped playing NRL so he is up-to-date with conditioning, tactics and what's needed to reach the top.
Perhaps he may need some expert help with backline defence.

We should sign the storms 2016 defensive coach as they are better this year than last year

But I thought that our problems were because of all of our injuries and not our defensive coach?

I heard a bloke on Brisbane radio say recently that Seibold would be a head coach in the NRL one day.Mind you,the same bloke said Watmough had a good season last yr and Buettner&co were doing a good job with the MRP
