I really think there's a misunderstanding of what a 'marquee player' is.
It doesn't mean "will singlehandedly win games for you, even when surrounded by fringe first graders playing out of position, and with little continuity in the team".
It means "the guy you build your team around". As in, surround him with the players who complement his style of play, adapt the team's style of play to work to his strengths.
Along with numerous others, I keep referring to Thurston and the Cowboys - it's the perfect illustration of 'what's wrong with DCE'. Plain as day last night - the defence rushes JT, no problem - there's Coote, Morgan etc to take the ball. And JT got the ball from Granville quickly enough that he could make the decision that he couldn't do much with it and it needed to be passed to the next guy.
DCE? Bad service from dummy half, and where the hell are his alternate options to pass to anyway, even if his hooker had given him enough time to make the decision before he had a tackler or five in his face?
Here's your hint: how is it that DCE just happened to emerge from his 'form slump' when he had Killer at 5/8, but oops...back down the gurgler when Walker was back in the 6 jersey...? Weird, huh?!
