Ball playing lock

When Dylan Walker was still with in the NO.14 he came on and played like another half which gave us another point of attack and was pretty good defensively. Andrew Webster spotted that and signed him and refined it a bit and was a dangerous ball playing attacker.

The eels signed Walker and he's doing the same for them, and caused us all problems with his attack.

Now Webster has another player in Erin Clarke who is a great ball runner and defender who plays lots of minutes, then when teams start to fatigue he's is used as and half passing the ball and getting lots of offlads.

We need a lock in that mold or a 14 that can come on fresh off the bench and create a bit of havoc.

Traditionally in this game, if your halves are OK and your lock is OK, the team is better than OK.

We use Jake and Brown in this rotation.. unfortunately both are now too slow to pose a running threat so their passing games are less effective.

Sure that Manly would have preferred to have kept Walker in that utility or 13 sub role and the 350 K that he was valued for that role at the time was probably quite realistic .
Quite understandable that he would have been inclined to then take up the Warriors offer to switch there with an apparent 500 K deal .
No idea how much the Eels are paying him or whatever freight arrangements with that early season move .
In the current circumstances at 13 for Manly , does seem fairly clear that either a Jake or Brown option there is not going to provide any major net benefit .
Jazz while hardly offering anything that dynamic , most likely the best fit .
Navale promising but looks like a way to go yet .
So many options tried and starting there in recent seasons , Jake , Alioia , Tent , Keppie , Woods and in recent times , Brown and Jazz
Still have a notion that Talau could go all right there , has that knack of finding his way or getting through fairly concentrated mid field defences and probably still has that more aggressive tendency aiming up in defence .
Anyway , looks like Jazz the best option there in the short term

Certainly a ball playing lock is better than a lock playing ball.

The Bulldogs have Kurt Mann doing his stuff.

We need a 14 that can come on and do what the above players are doing. We don't have a player in our ranks to fit that role.
He is going great guns. Amazing what playing in a well coached side can do to elevate individual players. Just about every player in that dogs side is in career best form.

Navale hasn't got the ball skills.

Talau could be an option
Very true - Navale has work ethic as a light forward with high work rate , not so much a tackle buster and no ball playing - more a Mr reliable lock and it's a Massive bonus to get your 13 like a Yeo with some skills....I think Greg Bird though a dirty rat, had a good combination of all modern day lock wants - toughness, aggression, skills, tryscoring ability and always in the game.
Haumole would do well, but can't clone him as need him on the edge...if we could clone him I'd have 5 of him and a fast dummy half @:smirk:

Greg bird is underrated in my opinion.

He Was NSW origin for a while. Uncompromising, team first, play anywhere.

Bit of a thug, but tough as nails and had the opposition worried due to his enthusiasm in both attack and defence....could do with some of that in our engine room and he was actually very skillful also.
Agree, and remember when he was one of the "bruise brothers".
I look at his time in origin and the admire him.
Didn't realise at the time how important he was.
Love to see that in our team now ( just not the pissing on police cars bit)

I do recall the "Bruise Bros"
So much intent defensively, that's when tackles were "hits' compared to today's "Locl up the ball" and wrestle apprach.
The more we type, the more I realise what a welcome addition a player like that would be for Manly.
