THE Cronulla Sharks have put star fullback Ben Barba on welfare watch after an altercation with a teammate and a row with his heavily pregnant wife.

The Sunday Telegraph can reveal Barba went on a recent bender and had to be separated from team mate Sosaia Feki after an disagreement in a Cronulla Hotel over a game of cards.

Cronulla officials have denied the altercation was physical but another team mate Wade Graham had to accompany Barba to his home “for his own protection.”

There he argued with his partner Ainslie Currie, who is expecting the couple’s fourth daughter within a week. The couple already have three daughters and are expecting a fourth.

The next day Barba flew home to Mackay and was seen sobbing at the airport as he was about to board the plane.

The incident took place before the Sharks had the weekend off earlier this month for the NRL representative round.

The Cronulla Sharks sent Barba to stay with his parents in Mackay, east Queensland, to recover from the incident which began with him arguing with team mate Sosaia Feki over a game of cards.

Although the club denied there was a physical altercation, Sharks forward Wade Graham had to escort Barba home from the Cronulla Hotel 'for his own protection', reported The Courier Mail.

The Sharks currently sit first on the NRL ladder - two points clear of the Brisbane Broncos - and are eyeing up their first premiership win in the club's 50-year history.

Barba was immediately sent home after the incident on Saturday May 7 and was seen crying at the airport before he got on the plane.

The Sharks were so worried about their star playmaker they sent a welfare officer to check on Barba the next day.

Barba has a troubled past and has had a number of brushes with alcohol in his NRL career.

In 2012 he was sent to rehab while playing for the Canterbury Bulldogs where he was treated for a gambling addiction and anger management issues.

He was cut from the Brisbane Broncos in 2014 before he was signed by the Sharks.

Very sorry for her, and can't help thinking she should've stuck to her guns a couple of years ago and not taken him back. Clearly he hasn't changed.

It was a couple of weeks ago, she has probably had the baby by now. So the pertinent question is, where's he going to fit the tattoo of the baby's name? I don't think he's got space for another neck tatt?

Just type the heading into google and you get a link to the stories without paying.

I actually did delete mine but I think one of our mods (who are far smarter than us mere mortals) undeleted (?) it and merged it with your far better named one!
