Barrett speaks out

People should maybe take note...

Manly need serious work done to fix the current situation.

While people blame 100% the coach I think people need to look at the whole picture.

Yes while Des was successful at the club with the same demountables and players changing out of their car, he had the right people around him! Manly must be the only club in the NRL that hasn’t upgraded anything in a long time. The owner of a club says what goes. And why won’t they fix the problem? Instead they palm it off to everyone else as if it’s someone else’s problem.

All I read online is “A tradesmen never blames their tools” if he has the right tools he would do a good job and using crap tools the place would fall apart quickly! So a tradesmen does need good tools to get the job done properly.

Manly are suffering, the fans are suffering, the players are suffering and something needs to be done soon instead of playing a blame game.

While Barrett wasn’t the best option for Manly he has many points in what he says. And sometimes the truth hurts.
Manly are behind all clubs in the NRL when it comes to facilities for training, junior developments and the future of the club. A lot would stem from the fact anyone who buys into the club needs to fund it purely because they have no leagues club to fall onto.

All I can say is it’s a shame!
That is a very good rationale post Mrs D . You have raised a lot of facts there and no one can deny the facts
The facts as you outlined are ....
The club does need to step up by upgrading on as you say the right tools including this rookie underperforming coach because he has shown that with the most affective tools that a club can give any coach and that is a quality side which includes elite players like DCE , Tom Turbo, Jake Turbo, Walker , Kappow and a complimentary roster with quality players , Trent has our team grossly underachieving and in danger of getting the spoon in the first time of our proud history .
The facts are Max not only gave life back to the Sea eagles he also build up our club and peaked it to greatness and the shame is we don't have the great mans input any more .
Give my love to Max .

He was also known as the tampon, because he was in one week, out for the next three or four.

My mum still calls him that @:D

Plenty of players that go alright ‘on their day’, it’s what you do when it’s not your day that counts.
Trent had more good days than bad as a player IMO
Trent was a very good player

I love that photo. One of the happiest and proudest days of Max’s life.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the poor character of Penn and his Appendage does not, in any way, prove that Barrett is not a liar or a man of poor character.
The only evidence we have is what Barrett has told Rothfield, what his mates have said about him, and the defence of his impressionable young charges.
The three pieces of evidence by which to judge character are:
What a person says about themselves (least reliable)
What others say about them (increasingly split at this stage)
What they do. And here we have someone who:
Has his team in 15th position
Aired dirty laundry in public
Consulted with the GM of a rival team
Broke a contract he extended himself only months earlier
Lied to his team about that resignation
Publicly humiliated a member of his playing group
Presided over a culture that allowed The Gladstone Incident to happen
Makes his children clean a smelly old gym
Played for St George.

I rest my case young Woodsie.

What they do. And here we have someone who:
Has his team in 15th position ... ( Not relevant to the discussion)
Aired dirty laundry in public ... (said that contract conditions hadn,'t been meet, and gould aired it)
Consulted with the GM of a rival team (Zorba was busy and Penn unavailable)
Broke a contract he extended himself only months earlier ... (gave 12 mths notice.. did not break his contract)
Lied to his team about that resignation (kept the situation under raps rather than put added crap on the team agenda ..praiseworthy)
Publicly humiliated a member of his playing group ..(regrettably he was simply honest ... numbnut hasn't complained)
Presided over a culture that allowed The Gladstone Incident to happen ... (the least drama of any club over 3 years)
Makes his children clean a smelly old gym ... (good preparation for married life .. excellent parenting)
Played for St George. ... (Guilty and I have no positive to put on that, wait,he was an Illawarra player caught up in the merger)

I rest my case young Woodsie. ... (the jury s still out Budgie)

Peter Peters launches extraordinary attack on Trent Barrett, reveals who will coach Manly next season

Veteran Manly official Peter Peters has unloaded on Trent Barrett in an astonishing response to the coach’s long list of grievances against the club he will leave next week.
  • The Sporting News league expert used his Sunday morning radio segment on the Big Sports Breakfast to pick apart the litany of alleged problems and complaints Barrett has put forward as reasons for his departure.

Zorba took aim at Barrett over:

    + Complaints Manly’s training facilities are not up to scratch;

    + His poor coaching record;

    + Team selections and retention and recruitment;

    + His poor relationship with club legend Bob Fulton;

    + His handling of the Willie Peters bullying scandal;

+ His heavy reliance on player manager/consultant Wayne Beavis

Peters also revealed current assistant John Cartwright is likely to replace Barrett in the top job next year.

“It’s a poor tradie who blames his tools. Look at the points table, Baz,” Zorba said.

“(Manly are) one rung from the bottom with almost the same side that finished top four last season.

“Barrett wanted a chance to coach in the NRL. He knew what he was in for when he went to Manly and after three seasons in charge of the most successful club in the modern era, he really has an ordinary success rate of about 40 per cent

“That’s with a playing roster that includes three Origin players – the Trbojevic brothers and Daly Cherry-Evans – and two New Zealand Test players.”

Peters believes the cracks started to appear 12 months ago when assistant coach Willie Peters quit after an altercation with head of physical performance, Dan Ferris, amid accusation of bullying.

“His problems started 12 months ago when his mate and assistant coach at the time, Willie Peters, was bullied and reacted in that well-publicised brawl.

    “It’s all been downhill since.

“Why is Marty Taupau starting on bench? Why was Jackson Hastings driven out? Why was Blake Green allowed to leave when there was no replacement signed.

“The answers to those questions lie at Barrett’s feet.”

Responding to Barrett’s complaints about sub-standard facilities and resources at Manly’s Narrabeen training base, Peters said: “I’ve worked and watched training at the Sydney Academy of Sport for 15 years – there is absolutely nothing wrong with the training facilities.

“Manly have made four grand finals in 10 years out of their training headquarters.”

Peters also denied the relationship between Barrett and the club’s former head of football, Bob Fulton, was still solid.

“There are some suggestions today that they are not in some sort of dispute – I can say the association is not what it was,” he said.

“Fulton gave Barrett a chance (but) they’re not as close as they were.

Zorba saved his final shot for Beavis, who has been working behind the scenes to manoeuvre Barrett out of Manly.

“I’ve told plenty of coaches and players over the years - you are the boss of your manager. You pay him to do what best for you,” Peters pointed out.

“You tell him what you want to do. Sometimes that changes.”

Asked who he thought would be in charge of the Sea Eagles next year, Zorba replied: “I think John Cartwright will be Manly’s coach next season.”

+ His poor relationship with club legend Bob Fulton;
BINGO !!!

That explains it now
As soon as this arrogant and ignorant know it all rookie wanted to be his own man he was lost at sea and fell on his sword .
On behalf of all the Silvertails supporters on this forum I would like to dedicate and farewell Trent with this song
The song about falling on his own sword by doing it his way

And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain
To think that I had the audacity to snub the Incomparable Immortal
And may I say - not in a shy way
Oh no, oh no, not me
I did it my way

Barrett said several times “I can’t comment for legal reasons” (rather than just “no comment”), and somebody leaked that he was unhappy with the facilities - that’s what caused the speculation to start swirling and certain hacks banging on endlessly about our demoutables, and that’s what led Penn to come out after the Clayton’s press releases didn’t work. I’m no Penn/Zorba apologist but Barrett was the one that decided this was to be played out publicly.

Why did he say "he can't comment for legal reasons" ... because the Zorba had gone public, in his age old custom, of getting his retaliation in first ... that was what started the speculation .. not Barrett, he hadn't said anything.

So I disagree that Barrett was the one that started the public comedy ....

What a load of sh!t! Zorb reckons the cracks appeared 12 months ago - then what did the club do about it if they noticed it? What did the club do about the bullying accusations? Barrett wanted a chance to coach in the nrl, but his performance is crap - yet the club agreed to extend his contract? Cartwright to coach next year?? Sounds like we want a puppet that knows how to keep his trap shut...for a couple of years at least.

Does he expect us to believe that Trent ran this place with an iron fist and last say on everything? Come off it Zorb....

These are the sort of articles Zorba the repugnant dinosaur does though to justify his existence around the club. He will puff out his guts and get a pat on the back by the very same arse clowns that have let the club become a shambles. The place is a deadset joke of an outfit and it starts at the top. To try and pin all the clubs failings on the coach borders on lunacy!

If the club doesn't take a good hard look at itself, admit there are problems that need urgent attention..then we may find ourselves in a very dark place, very soon.

Trent has done us a huge favour and some of us are too silly to see it....and the head honchos appear too arrogantly opinionated to act on it.

Feckin' WAKE UP Manly....before it's too late. Trent's departure does nothing to solve the problems we have. Do something constructive instead of this tit for tat sh!t.

I love this club. I don't want to see us become, at best...a laughing stock, or at worst...extinct.

Outstanding post ... I wish I had written it .....

You have your agenda, there is no denying that. I'm not saying the Penn's are flawless but you keep barking up the same tree and hoping the mudd sticks.

Your husband did a great thing for our club but at the same time if we continue to play his endeavours off of any new owners then it does nothing but hinder progress.

Max will always be fondly remembered as the man who saved our club, no doubt about it. But we have to stop thinking our current owners are killing the joint and max is the only salvation yet again.

Nobody sinks millions into anything unless they give a ****. For anyone who has that kind of money to support the club I love more than I ever could, im grateful; and I am willing to accept mistakes. S**t happens.

We are a strange mob ....

Zorba and Penn combine to get rid of Max and trash his character ....
Zorba and Penn fall foul of Des and combine to trash his character and reputation ...
Zorba and Penn fall foul of Toovey and trash his career ....
Zorba and Penn fall foul of 3 CEO's in 3 years ....
Siebold leaves the club after a couple of months
The club falls foul of Foran. Watmough and others like Glenn S. Brett S. Matai and Jamie haven't bothered to look back ...

... but when Zorba and Penn combine to trash the credibility and character of Barrett ...... suddenly they are 100% correct and truthful ... FMD .... I know which bloke I would believe ...
Zorba?

Anyone here that thinks the Penns are dumping millions into Manly and will end up losing money in owning Manly is completely f****ing deluded.
There is more skullduggery behind the scenes for sure, including the details of the sale of the leagues club, which was conveniently kept secret

The Penns are not dumping money for the love of Manly, it's not in their DNA.
I am betting my last dollar that the Penns walk away from this investment in the black, having savaged the leagues club, run the place on a shoe string and then offloaded to teh highest bidder.
Does anyone really think that the Penns give a sh** about keeping Manly at Manly or preserving our identity.
They will offload to whoever gives them the best deal. Anyone who doesn't see that is just sticking their head up their ar**.

You honestly think in the modern day of rugby league, in the NRL, private owners* are not losing money on their investment?

You think private owners make money and that every business man in Australia is lining up to make a play at the cash cow?

You're on drugs.

At the end of the day, what is the cost of a few plastic chairs and a couple of tables ? All Blacks team culture is built on them cleaning out the dressing rooms themselves after a game. Pay me the money that Barrett would have been on, I would have drove the team bus, clean the showers/ toilets, done all the massaging / strapping, worked the sideline as a ballboy etc, etc and still think why was I so lucky to have this job !!!
