To be fair I think Barrett is unwittingly trashing himself with that laundry list of piss poor excuses.

He is mentally weak, as the team’s performances and his list of excuses comprehensively demonstrate before Penn or Zorba even open their mouths.

This idea that most NRL clubs are smooth well oiled machines with highly competent people in key positions all working together in the pursuit of excellence is absolute total rubbish. Ponici and his crew at Melbourne lead the pack but most are filled with well meaning ordinarily skilled old school league types with professional titles on their badges.

Just take a look at the flagship, the NRL itself. Hundreds of jobs with big pay packets doing nothing. Remember Shane Richardson! 2 billion TV deal and they are broke.

The AFL is a professional organisation across the board with the odd exception and its so obvious.

Having a cast of thousands with lovely job titles doesn’t make a professional organization.

Canterbury , Parramatta , Penrith , Brisbane have all these Human Resources and grand facilities.With the Roosters and Melbourne they are the leaders in terms of financial resources.

3 of those 4 are in absolute turmoil at the moment. Even Brisbane has some serious issues at the top at the moment.The coach and CEO are hardly speaking .

None of those four have a premiership in the last 10 years.Meanwhile we have won 2 comps and lost 2 grand finals while they foot a massive wage bill for all these professional geniuses.

It’s a myth folks. Oh yes, we are unprofessional but don’t kid yourself that virtually all the rest of them aren’t.

Well its very much a sliding scale....and we are at the wrong end of the spectrum.

It shouldn't be about "oh other teams aren't professional so that's OK".

If I owned a footy team and had money at my disposal (and a supposed love for the team), I'd be doing all I could to make it the best performing and best run club in Australia. These pricks don't.

Its the sum of all the little things that add up to a culture of success and professionalism. The current management do none of the one percenters and it trickles down from there.

The latter is a toxic approach and will never breed success, even if you have your gripes with head office. Toovey and Hasler both had legitimate gripes with the powers that be, but you never heard either of them use it as an excuse for poor performances.

I'm going to invite Barrett to my school at the beginning of next year to see how much cleaning, furniture lugging and resourcing a primary teacher has to do, single handedly in their own time without pay, to set up class for the kids.

I agree. I remember years ago,I had a year 6 class and we were sent to what the school called Siberia for the year. The room hadn’t been used for years and next to the teachers desk was an ants nest and every time the wind blew one of the walls would sway back and forward. The cupboard had nails sticking out so was a danger to the students. We didn’t sook like Trent Barrett we made it habitable for the year and I really enjoyed that class. That article really sums up Trent - he needs everything to go his way or he spits the dummy. At Manly we win DESPITE the circumstances not because of it.

Hey Woodsie some good points and I don't agree with many of the things they've done, particularly Toovey's case. But the players you mention (not Jamie) all fell out because of Toovey's decision regarding Glenn.
Greentwit recruited De$ with $$$, then the bloke took all his staff with him. Good old legend Donny decided to stay. Siebold came from Melbourne, NRL owned and funded. He's used to the cushy life.
I totally don't agree with them trashing Max who saved us.
But Barrett is complaining about gym cleaning and garden chairs? He should have concentrated on training his team to tackle, and have more than two attacking plans instead of demanding resources. His job is to coach not to make locker rooms comfy.

He was always mentally weak imo. He was the playmaker in a St George side that was one of the most talented teams in the comp for a decade and never won a premiership. Probably because their furniture wasn’t good enough. Our team has lacked a mental edge since he got here, even though we did ok last year.

He's coached the team to the bottom of the ladder and now is publicly putting down our club with a list of excuses as long as the M1.That was truly pathetic. 'It's not about me. It's about the players' BS. He's deserting them. If it were about the players he'd be committed to them. Also, apart from Penrith how the hell does he know what facilities and resources the other 14 clubs have? Listening to Gould's dribble I suppose.
