Barrett's 3rd year ....

First Grader
Since taking on the role as Manly coach, Barrett has been under the pump from media and fans and performed well given some tricky circumstances.

He has proven to know the modern game tactically - but 3 key elements are what has impressed most -
1) He seems to have won the players - which speaks volumes and is a must.
2) Has grown into the Manly culture (which takes time) and seems to really have that -"Us against them" Attitude and has earned his stripes over the past 2 years through the process.
3) Has a good idea on each players strengths/weaknesses so there are no real positional or tactical experiments needed, just players fighting for positions, with Trent knowing who will fit best for the style of footy needed to win games.

Keep in mind Trent was a rookie in terms of NRL coach which is a Massive step up itself, but also has been up against adversity with key players missing, a squad well under the cap and constant media bash ups on Manly, where as fans we get pi##ed off, but this bloke has been the glue to holding this team together, have seen more established coaches combust under far less media pressure.

2018 is his 3rd year and after a very positive start to his coaching career, appears more relaxed going into this season....even has an aura he has been at Manly for ages and his passion for the club is 100% visible, compared to a new bloke starting his coaching career with no real alignment to that club.

Barrett has already made a positive impact on most Manly fans and in 2018 has a solid squad mixed with experience and youth, but most importantly quality and has the opportunity to prove he is the right man to lead Manly as coach for many years to come.

Its not too hard to buy into the us v them concept considering he is living it daily. Not trying to talk him down. He has been great but he is coaching a team that gets screwed, you kinda get pissed at that and tend to react.

Let's see how he goes this year now that the Bozo training wheels are off the coaching bike. It'll be make or break for him.

Has his contract been extended yet ?? There was talk of it last year but it's all gone quiet

He’s also a part of the 5 year plan and building beautifully.

He’ll win a Premiership within 3 years but not in 2018.

I think Barrett is stepping out of Bozo's shadow of influence and is starting to make this team his own.

Case in point for me would be Croker and Hastings. Now Bozo is gone, Hastings no longer seems first in line for a spot in first grade because the way things are looking, unless Croker gets injured he is going to get first crack at 5/8.

The only real rookie mistake I've seen him make is the semi last year when he didn't get on top of the D Walker type antics of bragging in the face of the opposition. That's what beat us and I hope he learnt from it.

Not to mention a squad with a hangover from the factions that existed in the squad the year before

I agree he has done well and man management is a strength

I think Baz has done extremely well under the circumstances. My biggest reservation with him was that he didn't get the Manly culture. But he has proven me wrong. + All the lads respect and want to play for him. Look how toxic the Panthers culture because the coach is an arrogant wan-ker and has no people skills. So glad we have extended his contract which will bring stability to our club.

Should be a Make or break year for Barret at Manly. Need to see improvement in defence, too many soft tries and on field discipline.

I dont think so. IMO he is building nicely. His only potential shortfall that I can imagine is tactical.

I am going to be looking for team management around origin time and new tactics released towards finals that were interwoven with training early at season start.

I think h has the goods.

Coach could be our ace up the sleeve this year. Our squad looks solid but with well-identified weaknesses.

I suspect our long premiership odds do not factor in Barrett's ability to improve the players and the team.

Of course, as to whether he actually has this ability, I think he does, but time will tell. A very interesting season awaits Manly fans.

I think he has done well to this point. He still doesn't own a mentally tough team, not many do. Instilling this toughness or buying that toughness is the key to us becoming a title threat.

It can be tough to instill . Some people are just more resilliant than others on the sporting field.

Cherry holds barretts future in his hands. Cherry has to mature into the player that doesnt need a game manager next to him. Manly need a 6 that can do a bit of everything so we need our 7 to not just be the flashy player. His attack at all options game is remarkable at times but doesnt get you deep into the finals

Posession wins you a lot of games and a 6 thats trying to gain it and a 7 that can be frivolous with it is not the best balance.

Cherry needs to be more insightful to a games presence and learn to keep his foot on the opposition throats or we need a leader on field that will let him know when he ****ed it up.

The refs akready let certain teams off the rack, we need to do it less

I really like cherry, he is a fantastic player but his season is now. And so is manlys. He will be much harder to stop once he has the oppostion in 3 minds rather than 2.

I think he could really inspire his team with more kick chase from his own kicks. If he cant get it right in the next 2 seasons we are in for a long decade

No way - the end of that Canberra game was fantastic! Every team needs one dickhead

This is a very different year for Trent. He is his own man and not under anyone's shadow. He has made tactical mistakes during the first two years but so has Bennett and Co. I can see TB as our long term coach.
