Barrett's 3rd year ....

No way - the end of that Canberra game was fantastic! Every team needs one dickhead
Not what I'm talking about. Trash talked Penrith in the final round and it worked. Was never going to work in the semi but they did it anyway. More than just Walker. If I could tell it was going to happen and beat them, then Barrett should have. Trash talk never works against the same team two weeks in a row because, in this case, Penrith would have expected it - thus no effect.
If they'd just shut up and been business like, the game was theirs for the taking.

I honestly thought they were never winning that game regardless. We were coming up to a team about 7 years into their 5 year plan against us being only what, 2 years..? Can't match that kind of experience...

Since taking on the role as Manly coach, Barrett has been under the pump from media and fans and performed well given some tricky circumstances.

He has proven to know the modern game tactically - but 3 key elements are what has impressed most -
1) He seems to have won the players - which speaks volumes and is a must.
2) Has grown into the Manly culture (which takes time) and seems to really have that -"Us against them" Attitude and has earned his stripes over the past 2 years through the process.
3) Has a good idea on each players strengths/weaknesses so there are no real positional or tactical experiments needed, just players fighting for positions, with Trent knowing who will fit best for the style of footy needed to win games.

Keep in mind Trent was a rookie in terms of NRL coach which is a Massive step up itself, but also has been up against adversity with key players missing, a squad well under the cap and constant media bash ups on Manly, where as fans we get pi##ed off, but this bloke has been the glue to holding this team together, have seen more established coaches combust under far less media pressure.

2018 is his 3rd year and after a very positive start to his coaching career, appears more relaxed going into this season....even has an aura he has been at Manly for ages and his passion for the club is 100% visible, compared to a new bloke starting his coaching career with no real alignment to that club.

Barrett has already made a positive impact on most Manly fans and in 2018 has a solid squad mixed with experience and youth, but most importantly quality and has the opportunity to prove he is the right man to lead Manly as coach for many years to come.

It’s all in or bust time for Barrett

If we don’t make week 2 of the finals this year then it’s time to sack him

I’d suggest that’s Nathan Brown, they’ve spent the big dollars attracted some big players and he needs to get them from wooden spoon to the 8.

Trent is under less pressure this year than last.

If we win he’s a great coach if we lose the #sackbarrett hash tag comes out @:p
Lol

That’s what happens when the coach is an outsider.

Being serious for a second he did better than I expected last year.

While ever Des is unemployed there will
Be pressure on baz if we don’t perform.

The sad part with Des as proven by his stint at Dogs- his main strength was his passion for Manly which the players bought into.
He could get the players to run over hot coals and through brick walls, more so than being a great tactician.
I think had Hasler not left Manly, we would have another 1-2 premierships today....his coaching was an example of rugby leagues foundations....run harder and tackle harder than the opposition and you will generally win the game....but he pi**ed off, so time for Barrett to write his own records and though appreciate the results Des got at Manly, was glad to see him fail big time at the Dogs.

Solid post Maxta old mate.

I think Baz has done extremely well under the circumstances. My biggest reservation with him was that he didn't get the Manly culture. But he has proven me wrong. + All the lads respect and want to play for him. Look how toxic the Panthers culture because the coach is an arrogant wan-ker and has no people skills. So glad we have extended his contract which will bring stability to our club.
The fact that the players love him really shines through, and to be honest he comes across as measured, learned and calm. I reckon he’s going to be a very good coach. In fact there are a multitude of similarities between Baz and Dez when he first started with us. Here’s to hoping he doesn’t become a maniacal egomaniac when success comes his way.

Walks like a tautology, quacks like a tautology, yet I'm still uncertain...
