Brbo is nowhere near the value of Garrick to the team. I cannot understand this adoration for Brbo. Defense is no better than Garrick, speed is nowhere near Garrick so why this drop Garrick for Brbo? Has Brbo scored tries like Garrick? He’s let quite a few in coz of his lack of speed. Can he score length of the field tries? Can he kick goals? You call Brbo more versatile coz he can play center or backrow? Garrick can play wing, center, fullback & probably have a stint at lock if required with the addition he’s our goal kicker.

I'm not advocating dropping Garrick for Burbo. Burbo is on my bench as versatile injury cover. There is no way Garrick plays in the second row, he's already a liability in the centres.

Turbo is a better centre than Garrick, and Hopoate has enough upside that I think he should be in our starting side, so that's how I'd fit them both in.

If Garrick makes the team it should be on the wing - where I agree he has a lot to offer.

Disagree mate…..Brbo is not close to Garrick in any position. Anyway just my opinion.

I'd still like to see him moved back to the wing though mate, he's never looked comfortable defending at centre to me

Strikes me as a big hat kind of guy...
I agree captain but I also think his competitive nature will have him driving the pack, he's not the kind of guy to drop his head when the forwards start dropping off tackles, I think he'd be sticking it up anyone who doesn't aim up

When Jurbo retires we’ll have the million a year needed to buy someone that’ll make you happy , until then it’s whatever we can afford I think
Remember the days when Crusher was in full swing (not the latter years), we'd snag a young Brent Kite from the Dragons, or managed to snag the league's best centre in Lyon? We just "added" players like Rodney and Bell. We acquired Matt Orford despite many clubs wanting him.

Why is it we now get all the players other clubs don't want or need? Even Brooks was offered a contract on half his value , was told he has to sign by X (or they'd move on) and thrown a BBQ from Bunnings.

These types of players (take Brown / Lodge / Woods) for examples might have very limited short term success, but they eventually fade into who they are - which they did.

Okay, maybe my expectation and standards for the club are a little high, because I was spoiled in riches with how great we were, and I have to lower the bar. And I've actually done that. But what that's done is out me into the "games moved past me" thread category.

I'm so uninspired or excited by our roster, chances, culture, ability and hopes, that I'm not really that interested. We've literally exacerbated our biggest Achilles Heel (horrible mobility, constitution, agility, explosive footwork) by going from Lawton to Tevaga (who is MUCH slower) and now have acquired a bloke 33 who will have played 10 games in three season at the start of next season, and who habitually injured, coming back from the worst possible injury at his age - foot. He'll be a plod. May be okay at first, but will fall off a cliff.

And we are miles away from the best teams. Will these two get us to the next level ? Against players like Martin, Yeo, JFH.

We are going to have a combination at times of Croker, Sipley, Brown, Jake, Burbo, Tevaga, Takaeahu etc running around (plods). Up tempo , agile teams will tear them a new arsehole.

I think it's because we already have marquee players at the club, so we do not have the money available under the cap to compete in the market for the good players that pop up. When you've got two Trbojevic's, DCE, and Olakau'atu around that 900k-1mil plus range, and you've got to sign another 26 players under the cap, you don't have the funds available to make those big name signings. We signed the likes of Orford and co. when the club wasn't stocked with big names.

The obvious question is why can the Roosters find a way to keep adding to an already star studded roster and the answer is Nick Politis. I know people keep asking about the Dogs ability to keep going to market but I actually think they have a pretty modest roster, particularly in the forwards, so I can see why they have money available. Burton, Mahoney, Kikau and Crichton would be on decent coin and they're the equivalent of our big four but then their roster really tapers off with a host of bargain signings.

I don't know why you get so fixated on Tevaga etc..low cost guys that can actually add some value.

Manlys real issue is paying big money for the Turbos - Jake is slow and Tom is injured. I love both and want them in the team but at perhaps 50%-60% of current wages. The magnitude of those contracts has stopped us from recruiting either a decent hooker or more forward punch.

Tigpies to run last next year: get money on it now. Basket Case.

I've come around on Bateman: him angry and fired-up, wanting to make a point and cheap with shared freight, might be great for us for a year.
And what about subsequent years,as he won’t be coming to the club for just one season?

Well we haven't signed him at all yet, so we can't be sure what he wants or what Manly can offer him. But he is in a position of needing to rebuild his reputation in Australia as a team man, having just been F'd off by literally the worst team in the league as unmanageable. I would expect we have some level of negotiating advantage. A single year to rebuild his image and then re-enter the trading market might be a better moneymake proposal for him too.

He has burnt his bridges at two NRL clubs. Will Manly be the third?

Sounds like he was just trying to negotiate a higher salary at the Raiders and it didn't pan out. The Tigers was a falling out with Benji because he was holding senior players accountable whilst coddling young players and Bateman didn't appreciate it.

If he's treated well here he will thrive, in my opinion.

Like you, since reading that enlightening article earlier, I've come around on Bateman too for the same reasons.

In view of his past history, imo he's a year to year proposition. Also having an Aussie wife helps. I think he would sign for a year...but at the right price. Could be a good pick-up for us and hopefully at the Tigers' expense.
