Battle of the Coaches.

This is what they earn the big bucks for. I think this game more than any other will come down to team preparation and attitude ... 2 things that are within the control of the coach.

Both sides have relatively inexperienced men at the helm. Who will prevail.

Team selection, focus, tactics, training schedule, mind games, motivation and the doubts ....

Good luck Baz ... you have learnt some hard lessons ... make this one a winner.

An interesting set of facts is that I think we are about the 3rd highest point scoring team this year .. yet I think we only have one player that has scored more than 10 tries. (Uate) .... seems our talent, attack or tactics cover the width of the field with no one dominating and tries being scored by a whole range of players.

I much prefer this type of spread as to the "champion" try scorer.

Even if we win some posters on here will still rubbish our coach.....
Perspective needed here. Some, and I am one, did not consider Hasler a successful coach until fulltime of the 2008 GF. After 2007 he was about the same as Brian Smith.

I am not interested in being a fringe top 8 team, I want to dominate and win Premierships. If we are to be consistently in the Finals but not winning the comp then there are many coaches that will get you there.

I want more than being competitive.

Jake has 8!

We all want that, however you need to realise that the coach is only part of the equation. Trent was left with the Mess that Hasler left with his back ended contracts. The fact we are in 6th position this year is a big deal. We have a young team that would struggle to be consistent with ANY coach, we also have 1 million worth of our salary cap tied up with retired players. The only team that seems to be successful year after year is the Storm, perhaps Bellamy is a brilliant coach but i think it has to do more with a few once in a decade players that are in that team. We are doing just fine and anyone that thinks we should be doing better due to our coach does not have a clue imo.

A coach is like a cowboy who is only as good as his guns
One coach will aim at a teams weakness with a revolver and the other with a pop gun and the results will be obvious .

Taking Melbourne as an example......Vunivalu (23) and Addo-Carr (19) were their only players to score in double figures. Their next best is Felise Kaufusi on 8 with Slater and Chambers on 7 each. That shows that the majority of their attack is down the flanks, though a lot of Vunivalu's tries are scored from kicks which are arguably harder to defend.

For the record, Manly have Uate (14), Tommy (12) and Walks (12) as double figure try scorers this year. Jake is next on 9 indicating our attack isn't limited to the flanks, while Kelly and Jorge scored 8. We scored 26 on the right and 23 on the left (Matty Wright bagged 6 and Parker 1), though unlike Melbourne who scored the bulk through their wingers, ours was more spread.

If only it was as simple as the simple minded would have us believe ... get a good coach and we can win the comp every year ... to hell with this once a decade nonsense.

That was Cronulla's plan, lead by their version of our Strone ... let's see how that worked out.

Jack Gibson .. COACH OF THE CENTURY, 3 time Prem winning coach .... Bumkiss.
Ken Kearney .. Aust Coach, 5 time Prem winning coach ... Bumkiss
Chris Anderson ..Aust Coach, 2 time Prem winning Coach ... Bumkiss
Ricky Stuart .. Aust Coach, Prem winning coach ... Bumkiss
Terry Fearnly .. Aust coach, Prem winning coach .. Bumkiss
Ted Glossop .. Aust coach, Prem winning coach .. Bumkiss

Throw in Arthur Beetson, Johnny Raper and others, and eventually they found a "rookie" who after 50 years of employing the best coaches in the game deliver them a Premiership...

... I am starting to think there is more to this than just a good coach.

Unless your name is Brian Kelly, Matthew Wright or Blake Green, hey?
Then it's open season - btw I was being sarcastic.

😉

Not too sure about Hook but Barrett clearly seems to have the respect of his playing squad and the important ability to encourage or to get the best out of them . Last week"s result may give Manly a slight physiological advantage but of course it will be a whole new ball game . However cutting down the Panthers attacking options and keeping the defensive pressure on them will surely be one of Barrett "'s priorities again . Barrett knows that Manly were able to match the Panthers earlier in the season despite being penalized out of the match and then to outplay them on the weekend so i think that he will feel quite confident in his approach and tactics for this final . It would be interesting to know what role or input that Cartwright has, but i have faith in both and they should and hopefully will have the side in the right frame of mind and focused . The result is then basically up to the players of course and then also with what ever part the usual luck aspect or providence will also play .
