Kennedy retired from the game after two seasons at Manly, where he was credited as playing a key part in putting the club on the path to the 2008 premiership, despite having retired in 2006.

In 2020 he and former Canberra Raiders teammate Nathan Sologinkin were running the Fresh Extreme Fruit Market north of Brisbane.
