Journey Man
Whilst the inner turmoil at Manly continues to unravel at the seams, a number of long standing coaching and development staff at Belmore have found themselves, and their roles redundant in their current capacities just prior to Christmas, with a number of announcements set in the near future.
"At the moment, it's up for debate. Des has made it clear he'll be at Manly in 2012.
"But if that changes, we'll deal with it on an as-need-be basis. For now, Jim Dymock has a fantastic opportunity to show what he's capable of doing as a head coach before the long-term succession plan affords him more time to develop under Des."
Unfortunately, for Jim Dymock and associated staff, Greenberg was continuing with behind the scenes negotiations, fully aware that succession meant and spelled the end for many current Bulldogs staff.
Said Egan, "I have really enjoyed my four years at Manly, working with the playing group". "I am good mates with (2013 coach) Geoff Toovey and it was a really tough decision. It took me a week to make but, from a professional development point of view, I thought the move was best for me."
After sacking Kevin Moore in July, Des Hasler was Greenberg's first significant challenge since the departure of Sonny Bill Williams in August 2008.
For the sake of the Bulldogs current football club board, he had to deliver.
Privately the club drew up a hit-list which included Hasler and Storm's Craig Bellamy.
Greenberg even checked to make sure Wayne Bennett had definitely signed at Newcastle.
As time went on, it became obvious the best play was to land Hasler. On the 8th of October, the Bulldogs showed why they are still one of the best-run clubs. In unveiling a long-term succession plan for the next five years, they demonstrated a lateral thought-process guaranteed to be the envy of every other NRL outfit, but this costs jobs, and it is rumored,
that the following coaching and administration staff may be looking for work in the coming months;
+ Jim Dymock – Interim Head Coach;
+ Andy Patmore – NYC Coach & Manager Coaching and Development;
+ Harry Harris – High Performance Coach;
+ Brett Kimmorley - Specialist Coach.
It is also widely suggested that a number of recruitment staff may be on the block going forward.
If Greenberg gets his way, there will also be a shortlist of players without a club, in the very close future, with Parramatta recruit, Kris Keating the fist to feel Greenberg's axe.
There will be a number of unhappy families west of the bridge this Christmas, all of whom will be waiting the dreaded phone call no-one wants to hear. The Bulldogs have decided on a direction of excellence, and it won't matter to them which innocent bystander ends on the scrap-heap going forward.
