Burnout, breakdown and broken bodies: The search for one per cent with diminishing returns

My kids played 3 years of league until both them and us as parents pulled the plug on it. And my oldest son was a very handy half with a long left foot kicking game. He was playing academy football Saturdays and league Sundays. We called it in under 14s when the sizes were getting ridiculous. I have friends with their kids still playing. Injuries weekly. One did his ACL another snapped collarbone. Sone pretty crazy s$&@ and they are all like under 15/16s!

Good article thanks for posting.
Without checking stats I have felt that Storm for years have been better than most at avoiding injuries, and Panthers during their incredible run of GFs usually seem to have just about their full complement, certainly at the pointy end.
Worth spending money on best sport science to preserve expensive assets such as players.

There seems to be a lot of injuries sustained in training. That's one area more controllable than during a match.

Same with my son, the best years were up to under 8's, lot of fun footy, after that not so much fun anymore, that's when the coach starts to identify the boys that'll go furthur in the game and those who'll just walkaway.

That’s where Des Hasler, c.2011, was at.

But not where Mr Fluffy, then or since, was at.

The rest is history.
