Would just like to applaud the club for donating 5 jerseys to the David Peachey Foundation aboriginal League Carnival being held in Dubbo this weekend:
The Dubbo Chamber of Commerce and Industry is urging its membership base to support this weekend’s David Peachey Foundation Aboriginal Rugby League Carnival at the APEX OVAL.
With Dubbo hero boy David Peachey set for a nostalgic farewell as he suits up one last time for the North Sydney Bears in this Saturday’s Premier League Grand Final in Sydney, the carnival is a very visual reminder of the profound impact he has had on Australian Rugby League over a long and proud career.
The Carnival will be held at APEX Oval on September 29th and 30th and will attract participants from around the country. Also hosted will be the Ditch and Durries Netball Carnival.
Chamber President Mrs Tina Reynolds said today:
“The Peachey Foundation Carnival is one of the largest events on the Dubbo sporting calendar and brings many visitors to the region over the long weekend.â€ÂÂ
However, there is still a desperate need for sponsorship of the event and the Chamber of Commerce is urging its membership base to consider providing cash and goods to help support the carnival.
“Local business reaps huge benefits from these high profile events†said Mrs Reynolds.
Already cash sponsorship has come from several sources including A1 Tree Service.
Counsellor Rod Towney is on the Organising Committee and is enthusiastic about the Carnival:
“The trust was founded because of David Peachey’s ongoing interaction with Aboriginal communities around country NSW and many enquiries from talented young kids about what it takes to make it into the big leagues of sport as a professional athlete.
Our current focus is on indigenous kids from rural and remote areas that excel or show potential in rugby league, with a long term view to extending to other sports.
The Trust provides small grants and support mechanisms for indigenous kids who are participating in sport and representing their state or country.â€ÂÂ
Businesses and individuals that can contribute are being urged to contacts the Dubbo Chamber of Commerce as soon as possible.
