Confidence and will to win. Where has it gone?

Ability goes nowhere.
If you have it it's always there.
But the confidence and will to win for this team has disappeared.
A team that was well placed a few weeks ago is now almost gone from the 8 and I can't find a reason why they have lost these important commodities.

The only line to draw is that it coincided exactly with the media innuendo campaign (which also worked so well in 2015)

The team is over reliant on momentum swings to build from, has been the case all year.

Playing fast and direct at pace off the back of momentum swings early in the year saw Manly pile on points in patches, enough to hide flaws in other areas and not allow as many critical in the balance games expose our deficiencies.

Once injuries, depth and the grind of the season took hold on our young troops, areas of our game became exposed, self confidence starts to drop and you start digging yourself a hole deeper every game.

Now everything feels forced and pressured, from "come on guys turn up", "come on guys play with intent", "come on guys too much to play for", "come on guys play fast and direct", it is mentally draining and sometimes the harder you try the worse it gets and the more you become drained.(digging a hole)

Getting back to playing without the pressure of expectations and just putting your best foot forward, there is enough talent in this squad to cause teams trouble if they "give themselves half a chance"

Would a more experienced coach be able to combat this with the team we have? Also
I noticed today that even the dogs right side backs picked our left side out defensively. They haven't been able to do that all year to anyone.
I'd say familiarity with how we play plays a part.
Just interested in how a Bellamy or Bennett would approach it with this team.

Bennett or Bellamy would just buy new players, cause they can.All our sides are cr@p at the moment, left right and middle.

Yeah I know lol.
But not this time.
They have to coach this team in this scenario.
Even a Cleary or Griffin just to see if coaching experience would make a difference.

Bellamy would place his young troops under so many fatigued situations in pre-season training to spot the weaknesses better than every other coach---i think mentally we are lacking in this department also. (staying mentally tough in the grind)

G.Rose might be able to work within the old Manly training program but wanted out early on at Melb during Pre-Season.

This group of players(well most of the group) will build on these performances next year under a tough preseason to the point we are 2 wins extra this time next year. (with a good run without too many injuries)

We only had the ability to defeat only 2 of the top 8 teams this season in the Cowboys and the Roosters . The six quality top 8 teams that we didn't have the ability to defeat was the Storm the Sharks the Broncos The Panthers and the Eels .
We need quality players that have the ability to complete with the quality teams

Didn't we find our confidence and will to win when we played the Cowboys earlier in the season. Can't we go back to Townsville this week, instead of NZ? 😵

We beat the sharks. It was I think one of our best wins. We also had some terrible referring go against us in the games we lost to the Eels and Panthers. The game we lost against the Panthers when Peranara did everything he could for us to lose for me was a turning point. We defended really well but still lost because of dreadful refering. The players never seemed to have recovered from that.

"Rose lost eight kilograms during a Melbourne pre-season which he described as the toughest of his career." (Smh)
Yep, that symbolises the difference and We are coming home with a wet sail.

The other diff is Trent is still a rookie. Not his fault. The storm probably also have lots of money for player development where we may spend ours covering defaulting sponsors and non playing team members.

Agree with the panthers loss. We were great D that night, bashing the panthers and a different team but kept getting penalised for everything. That loss was hard to take. It was when we were on a roll and should of kept the momentum going. Took another dive after the heavy loss to dragons as well and haven't regained it mentally since then

I'm looking at it in a more balanced manner this morning. As many have pointed out, we are a million plus under the cap, we have a few quality players amongst a team of no-names and rejects. If you look at the Cows roster, currently with 12 players injured they still can field a far superior side to us.
We took the comp by surprise and have had some great wins. The top 8 has changed throughout the year too. Some teams under us, we have beaten when they were top eight - didn't research this but I know Canberra were up there at some stage.
Then we had some key injuries - Jorge was huge, Siro, just hitting the strap. Brad Parker last week.
The guys are busted. Teams have figured out where we're soft and it's all gone downhill.
What I want to see in the next two weeks and beyond if we get there is the Manly spirit back, win, lose or draw.
Fight for it. Don't just let it happen.
Have a crack.
Go Manly!
