Hamster Huey
Space Invader
Story from the Manly Daily (Zorba's View) from over two years ago;
KIERAN Foran, Trent Hodkinson and Daly Cherry-Evans will all get specialised training in halfback play from departing skipper Matt Orford before he leaves for England after Christmas.
Orford gave this insight into the three players:
* FORAN: Has already proven he can handle the NRL and is a fearless player who is a really strong defender. His attack is effective and he is an excellent support player. Probably needs to improve his kicking game a little but that will come. More a five-eighth at this stage but could easily develop into a top halfback.
* HODKINSON: Trent has had the benefit of training in the fulltime squad for more than a year and he knows all the moves and pattern of play which Manly use. Could easily slot into the halfback role and comes from an outstanding junior background. Confident young player who isn't afraid to organise his defence and run the show. Good kicking game and doesn't lack confidence.
* CHERRY-EVANS: Has all the skills needed for the halfback position. Probably needs to work on his speed to measure up to what is required but gives me the impression he can do that with hard work. Is very quick between the ears and reads a game beautifully. Very clever with the ball in his hands and, like the other two players, isn't afraid to mix it with the big boys around the rucks. Real talent this kid.
