DCE, Turbo and Seibold

There are a lot of arguments about whether the club has got value for money in relation to the long term deals that DCE and the Turbos signed.

Each of these players love our club and have been wonderful servants and two of the three are past their peak now and you feel if Tommy Turbo gets an injury free run that he will be in the elite group of players in the comp.

I understand why the club secured these players like they did to fend of predatory clubs with buckets of money through third party payments. It was the right thing to do at the time.

However when you look at where we are now, the club is hamstrung in what it can do to sign quality players in the areas that desperately need attention!

We have Tommy covered in relation to other options at fullback if he gets injured.

We really struggle to replace DCE when hes out of the team and I believe that Jake needs to be used in a different way now as he is far too slow for the 13 role and we need to use him for 60 minutes a game now.

I believe that once DCE decides to retire that Manly will finally be able to invest in a replacement for him and a quality 9 which we continue to lack and is holding us back from true success.

2025 will be potentially be a final season for DCE, I think the writing is on the wall rep footy wise as it is for Jake. It would be lovely to see the two of them drive Manly deep into the finals next year.

We do need a succession plan for both of them as they are vital positions!
thank god we have an elite player in Koula.

You can see from Penrith, Melbourne & Roosters that the desirable team structure is a top quality spine (that’s 4 players on ~$1m each), a blue chip prop (~$800k-$1m), a blue chip centre (~$800k) & a blue chip second rower (~$800k).

Say $6.6m on those 7 positions.

The rest can be “money ball” players or emerging youngsters who haven’t achieved their first big contract yet. These type of players are in constant turnover due to age (retirement) or moving elsewhere due to attracting higher offers than the club can afford.

The tricky part is the planets aligning where you have every position filled with good, hungry players willing to put in 110% for the success of the team, minimal injuries to your top 7 players (ensuring minimal disruption to the squad), & everyone from the front office to the ball boys being on the same page FOR A WHOLE PRE-SEASON & SEASON.
