Dear Mr Scott Penn,
We've never met so I have very little sense of anything about you apart from the fact that you're a very rich bastard thanks to your dad.
I don't even know how old you are. I'm guessing between 45 and 50.
Let's say you're 45. That would have you being born around 1973, the year of Manly's second premiership, the second year I was supporting the team which you now own thanks to your very generous Dad.
My dad was generous too, so we have that in common, but he fell a little short of being able to buy Manly for me.
Anyhoo.
So 1973, you probably don't remember much about those first two brilliant teams, or for that matter, the great teams of 1976 and (the best) 1978.
Perhaps you might have a read about them one day.
Anyhoo.
I'm thinking by 1987, you would have been 14ish - just a little older than I was when I first got the Sea Eagle bug - and starting to experience legendary performances by Manly players for yourself.
What do you remember from those great victories of 87, 96, 08, 11?
What were those teams made of?
Who do you remember?
Do you know of players like Graham Eadie, Terry Randall, Johnny Gibbs, Mal Reilly, Cliffy Lyons, Max Krilich, Ben Kennedy, Fatty Vautin, Crusher Cleal, Dale Shearer, Spud Carroll, Terry Hill, Matthew Ridge, Brent Kite?
I know you know of Dessie Hasler, and Geoff Toovey, and Beaver Menzies, and even Bozo Fulton.
What do all these great Manly warriors mean to you?
And where do the likes of Trent Barrett, John Cartwright, and Dan Ferris sit in relation to them?
And while we're at it, who is Arko?
What is Manly?
You don't seem to know so may I suggest a little light reading to catch you up with MY football team.
Chilling regards,
Budgewoi Eagle.
