Des out coached by Clearly tonight

XV-1

First Grader
Awesome performance from Penrith tonight and Des was completely out coached by Ivan Clearly.

Penrith's speed off the line in defence and their ability to get 3 in so many tackles to slow down the ruck is special.

It made Manly look like they aren't fit and have no defensive system.

Kicking to Saab on the end of almost every set of 6 was brilliant tactics. While Saab is fast, his ability to break the line bringing the ball out from his line is poor. It worked perfectly.

If Des doesn't get going with some real coaching and tactics, we will be very lucky to make the top4.

When did Cleary change his name by Deed Poll?

Api>Croker is where its at. The guy mesmerises the defence and of course scored a try. This is why dylan walker is so important he is another point of attack and he does it at speed. Dce's notoriously slow start didnt help at all. Foran played ok but they were all over us... when does walker return?

Losing was expected but to be completely uncompetitive and never in the game was the most disappointing aspect. Nothing has changed from last year. Same squad will be the same result. Harper , Parker, Croker, Foran, Keppie, Sipley, Bullemore , Paseka aren't up to it I'm afraid.

I won’t write Bullemor off yet, I think he’s a middle forward. But yeah, the rest aren’t up to it.

Mate, I'd be pumped with a top 4 finish

Using only 3 on the bench of which we lost Lawton, so effectively 2 bench forwards, was our downfall. Koula shouldn’t have been in the 17 and a forward would have been better, like Davey. We were going ok first 15 minutes then the forward rotation killed us. Marty didn’t come back on till 20 minutes was left.

The same issue last year was go forward and until Des brings in 3 forwards on the bench and a utility we have same results against top sides. It’s only round 1 though so let’s see what next Friday brings.

If you can’t see the daylight between those two sides then you’ll be deluding yourself for the rest of the season. Enjoy the highlight reels I guess, because only 1 team will win the comp (newsflash, it won’t be Manly).
Wow! As I said it is round one. Gee the March/ April premiers never win the comp. Penrith were miles ahead of us tonight but it’s a long season. I remember one year when we lost the first 3 games in row and went on to the win the comp.
