The old building is in pretty bad condition MB, they are trying to keep the facade, and use some of it. but a lot of it is not worth saving.

and yes the new one is an absolute shambles, but what is worse is the fact that they dont have enough doctors to fill it, a lot of the local guys, and I believe it may be ALL the local surgeons will not work there.

So if you go up there you basically get an intern who is flown in on a short term contract from Sydney.

There are no specialist Obstetricians doing on call up there, the one we had had a heart attack mid last year and is only doing scheduled procedures or stuff in business hours. there was a 2nd one but I have heard he is resigning also. so if its 3am and labor arrives and theres comlications, they throw you in an ambulance and send you to Orange 40 minutes away.

Going to Orange as a better alternative is a scary thought.  I was nearly killed by incompetence at Orange Base when I had my knee reconstruction.

A friend of ours had a bady in mid December here in Dubbo.  Because they've closed every maternity ward west of here (except for BH) they come from all over the State to give birth here.

When my friend was here the ward had 15 more patients than beds and was understaffed for the normal bed numbers.  They had the mothers in ambulance trolleys all over the corridors.

lesser of 2 evils Matas.
Yeah I know.  But its a bit like having to choose between a pizza from Weevil Boys or Pizza Yuck.  Go the private option (Domino's) I say.

we are going the private option as soon as we can get out of there after delivery.

back to Bx private probably the day after.

Highly recommended.  I fail to see any wisdom in the public habit of putting as many people in a room as possible so nobody can sleep.

Fro.  Come to think of it, our two elder boys were born at Cowra and it has a brilliant maternity section.  Not that much further you know .......

Cowra is twice as far. and our Ob is in Orange as well.

And Bathurst had a great one 5 - 10 yrs ago as well

70 patients given radiation overdoses
SMH - Kate Benson and Louise Hall
January 31, 2009

MORE than 70 cancer patients have received radiation overdoses because a machine at a North Coast hospital was incorrectly calibrated, in the latest chapter of NSW Health's horror story.

The debacle follows confirmation that the federal Health Minister, Nicola Roxon, will consider taking over the state health system within five months if millions of dollars owed by area health services are not cleared and reforms put in place.

Her comments were supported yesterday by the Opposition health spokesman, Peter Dutton, who called for the Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, to honour his election campaign promise to take control of state health.

"Mr Rudd won the last election with a promise that he would fix hospitals. The buck stopped with him," Mr Dutton said. "Now 15 months into his first term he has made no suggestion as to how that is going to happen and in NSW there are people who are unnecessarily dying in public hospitals. And that is unacceptable."

The Health Minister, John Della Bosca, headed off a walkout by specialist doctors at Orange, Bathurst and Dubbo yesterday by ordering a late-night pay run.

The chairwoman of the Medical Staff Council, Ruth Arnold, said yesterday most visiting medical officers - including many who have waited three months for their money - had been paid, but could not confirm all debts had been settled.

The State Government was also forced to apologise to the family of Hay resident Brendan Burns, 24, who was discharged from Griffith Base Hospital on Monday with a headache and died the next day from an undiagnosed brain tumour.

Mr Della Bosca said the death was not linked to staffing levels or patient capacity.

Meanwhile, yesterday his department said it would investigate how a radiotherapy machine at the Coffs Harbour Integrated Cancer Care Centre was incorrectly calibrated for 17 months.

The independent review will determine if any patients suffered adverse effects.

Led by the director of radiation oncology at Liverpool Hospital, Professor Geoff Delaney, it will also investigate why the error was not picked up until an annual check on January 5.

The chief executive of the North Coast Area Health Service, Chris Crawford, apologised to the 72 patients who received the elevated doses between August 2007 and this month and said each would be contacted personally.

Wonder if you chaps remember this thread when you go to re-elect labor.

Mata do you get paid for everytime you mention that yank junk food?

What would you expect with Della-Bosca in charge.

And now labor want to elect Frank Sartor as premier.,  Does it get any worse.  One of my neighbours used to be his driver when he was Sydney City Council mayor.  He tells a lot of stores about Sartor and none of them good.

Labor would be better off electing Osama as leader.  He would be more popular than Sartor.
