Do any Scottish love the Rangers?

I caught the UEFA Cup this morning between St Petersberg and Rangers. The Russcies deserved the 2-0 win by a mile. But what got me were the tens of thousands of Protestant Ranger supporters decked out in the Union Jack. Surely in a proud country like Scotland thay must hate their guts?! Any one know what gives there?
