Do we really have that much room under the cap?

Whatever players fill the last positions are irrelevant(money wise),the cap is 9.1 with another 300k for car allowances and veteran player top up,minimum salary is 100k.The figures above are pretty accurate as we have to pay many players like Sironen,Uate,Hastings and Perrett their full contracts for 2018.There is another possible 60k(each) for up to 6 players as development players on top of this. When you add this up the cap for next year is maxed out.I agree that some salaries may be out slightly that I have quoted above but they are realistic especially the guys who we have to pay fully this year.I think I have been conservative as some of those depth players like Bainbridge,Hopoate,Schuster could attract higher offers elsewhere and may cost more to sign.

I personally think our only real option of signing players is if we let some go like Brown/Green/Wright and we do the same as last year where we bring in guys who are being partly paid by other clubs who want/need to let go of players

Im sure there will be a few cut loose.
Yeah I agree, the thing is that the guys we let go need to have their full contract picked up by other clubs for us to make room or the wheeling and dealing becomes more tricky. If we are picking up half the contract still,it makes it hard to clear cap space. If we let Brown go for example(possible salary of 300k)and we are still paying him 150k,it means his position can only go to a guy getting paid 150k.However,if you could pick up a player like Sue who is on probably 400k and we get the Tigers to pay half, then it comes close to being a straight swap for a better player....(whoever was to sign Brown)

I see where you are coming from mate but think you're way off with some if those numbers. Winterstein, hastings, Perrett and Wright overestimated and Walker underestimated.
Either way we have lost Stewart, Matai, Myles and Lawrence off this year's cap. Myles was reported to be on 500k alone. Even factoring in upgrades you'd have to think we are still under

I hope your estimates aren't right, you've got us well over the cap!!

Yeah I am sure my estimates are off, but I think my underestimations are just as large as overs.Perrett was on 400k at Dogs and signed here for 3 yrs, doubt he was taking a paycut.Hastings was in first grade when he extended with roosters, doubt he was taking a cut either,Wright signed a 4 year contract and if we offered Kelly 160,I think 250 is close, doubt he would have signed for 4 yrs on 150k,Winterstein had offers from Japanese rugby and did not sign on until after we missed Lewis(suggests we decided to up ante, just like Parker got resigned just after top game this year when replacing Kelly),he would be on 250k absolute minimum.I know that we have lost players but all knew cap was increasing and budgeted accordingly,we knew we would have to pay full contracts of Perrett,Uate,Hastings,Sironen and Walkers upscaling contract as well as Turbo bros.I am pretty sure that DCE's contract is tied into cap increases and goes up if cap goes up over the years too.(I think I underestimated his by 100k anyway too)Sipley would cover the loss of Lawrence....

Yeah but only by about 60k,I am sure one(or more) of the locals is on the veteran 200k allowance for players who have been with club for 8 or more years. The 100k car allowance would be mixed in somewhere in there.....

I do think players like Perrett have come on for less - they weren't playing first grade and nobody wanted them so I can't see them in a position to do anything but take less.

There is no way we are paying Uate $450k. Newcastle is paying half his freight this year and then next year it's a fresh contract on dollars we were prepared to pay - more like $250k.
