Do we really have that much room under the cap?

I do think players like Perrett have come on for less - they weren't playing first grade and nobody wanted them so I can't see them in a position to do anything but take less.

There is no way we are paying Uate $450k. Newcastle is paying half his freight this year and then next year it's a fresh contract on dollars we were prepared to pay - more like $250k.
I don't think Uates contract is fresh,I think we have taken it over..So are we paying half of Buhrer's contract next year too, along with half of Myles/Symonds contracts etc....?it goes both ways.I believe we are paying all of Uates.Maybe no one wanted them and have to pay their full money, but we had no Stewart/Matai and were desperate to get players,we were in no more powerful bargaining position than the players,Uate seemed ok playing reggies if no one else came calling.

Why would we be paying Buhrers full contract next year? He had one year left on his contract and that finishes this year.

If we are paying all of Uate's money this year then we are paying none of Jamie's- either way, we will not be paying $450k for Uate next year. He had one year left on his contract which ends this year - next year's money will be significantly less. It won't be $450k garaunteed. His career was effectively over and we offered a lifeline on much less money for next year.

Symonds wasn't contracted for this year let alone next year, so nothing to pay there either. We may have some of Myles to pay next year but that would be it.

I think you are getting contract dates a little confused which is throwing your figures out.

I'm pretty sure DCE has a fairly substantial third party contract with Fox Sports and I'd be very surprised if the turbos didn't attract some sort of sponsorship as well. But I agree that we mightn't have huge sums to throw around.

The turbos do a heap of promo work for Brookvale Mazda.

Whatever players fill the last positions are irrelevant(money wise),the cap is 9.1 with another 300k for car allowances and veteran player top up,minimum salary is 100k.The figures above are pretty accurate as we have to pay many players like Sironen,Uate,Hastings and Perrett their full contracts for 2018.There is another possible 60k(each) for up to 6 players as development players on top of this. When you add this up the cap for next year is maxed out.I agree that some salaries may be out slightly that I have quoted above but they are realistic especially the guys who we have to pay fully this year.I think I have been conservative as some of those depth players like Bainbridge,Hopoate,Schuster could attract higher offers elsewhere and may cost more to sign.

Oh but this team had over achieved according to some

Yeah the thing is that some of our contracts such as dce's are paid partly by TPA's, meaning that we'd actually have plenty left in the salary cap

As mentioned the Trbos get heaps with that car business, as most of our major players such as Walker, Taupau and most importantly, our greatest player in history Lewis Brown

I think that the marquee player allowance may still apply , so should allow more cap space , also some of the current 20 "s side such as Tom wright and Andersen probably should be included in next year"s top 30 or so cap listed playing squad . Just on a general cap aggregate estimate for next season and even taking into account some of the cap listings here , there would still seem to be some scope for some worth while additions , maybe not big name but still able to improve the club"s depth factor at least . Certainly would be appealing if players like Brown and Jono Wright and perhaps a couple of other present squad members could be traded or moved on though .

Yeah,I got Buhrers and Symonds contracts mixed up,but Uate had 2 years left when we took over not 1( not sure why you are so sure we have taken it over and then given him a fresh contract?,yes Perrett restructured for an extra year but no mention of any others). The rest of the contracts are as I stated(Perrett,Sironen,Hastings).I mentioned that they were not solid figures but even if Uates is less and the tpa's taken into account, many others I mentioned are underestimated so I stand by the post.We still have to sign the last 7-8 members of the squad and if they are not all bargain basement guys then there is less to throw at any other signings many here want and if we do sign bargain basement guys and upgrade a spot or 2 then we will have less depth than this year.My post was meant to say that we will have to shed players and get guys on contracts part paid for by other clubs,I still think this, but I hope I am wrong and will be happy to admit it and for others to freely bring up and show this thread again in the future lol.

The report I read, and just checked again, states that Uate had one year remaining which is this year https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/www.zerotackle.com/uate-could-leave-newcastle-for-manly-23389/amp/

I am sure that Uate needs to have his remaining year's contract value honoured, part of which is either paid by Newcastle or offset by Newcastle paying Buhrers contract. The second year of Uate's contract is a value to be determined purely by Manly and Uate and I am positive it is nowhere near $450k.

Anyway, I think we are in a better position than you suggest; however, we will still release a few extra players I would think.

No problemo, good to have a discussion on a slow day....

Mate, it is just to distract me from this team's performance and to give me some hope we have money to buy our way out of this.

I think we have some good talent coming through,Bainbridge,Hopoate,Sipley,Paseka,Amone,Tanginoa,Olakau'atu,Funa,Parker,Hastings,Price,Schuster,Smalley,Fainu.I am more worried about who is going to be coaching and when someone will make a definitive statement about it.Unless you are a club with massive tpa contacts it is hard in this environment to buy your way quickly out of a bad situation...

I really doubt anyone would know how much we are paying players.

The numbers guessed above based on loose media reports (who probably just make things up anyway) are inclusive of TPA's as well of which some is not in the cap eg DCE's 1.2M has been as low at 750K in the cap.
