DY RSL as owners

Sorry if it seems I’m always disagreeing with you. I know more information than I can say.

That’s not actually true about it being used by other groups. Technically it could but they’d have to pay the upkeep and ongoing maintenance which is significant. It would also embarrass the government (they’re called nrl centers of excellence). Nrl clubs have the capital to ensure ongoing maintenance. When money is given out for infrastructure the state doesn’t pay ongoing maintenance just up front costs.

He quickly explained the cost benefit analysis that they did and thereby rejected the idea.
Real estate was the simple solution to both the Diggers and the DY RSL. They sell overpriced units and charge exorbitant management fees - simple and lucrative

The other huge concern that he raised was that of unlimited public liability.

Both the Diggers and DY RSL now outsource much of their venue, thereby shifting any insurance claim to others.

I'm curious as to our Owners' long term view of the franchise.
The present trajectory is a steep downward curve 😕

I haven't checked but would be surprised if the constitution of an RSL club allowed it to buy an NRL team. Is there any comparable precedent?

An rsl can’t run a football club, they have enough on their plates running the bars, restaurants and venue. That’s all they do.

The old leagues club model works patchily these days.

This model is that a football club sets up a licensed club, and makes some $$ from the licensed club to help fund the football operation.

It works ok for Penrith and Canterbury, and maybe parra.

That model has failed for manly because of the nature of the premises not being able to compete in the local market ( it isn’t even competitive with the brookie pub)
AND perhaps more because of the 3 way split between leagues club, football club and the manly sea eagles.

Private ownership is probably best for manly under these circumstances as long as the owners can set up a working management structure.

They are both generally members of clubs nsw. It just comes down to whether the members would accept or agree to it. There is absolutely nothing legislatively which prevents them doing it

If we all joined up and voted as a block we would have control by the next agm.
Propose buying the MWSE, second it and what can they do about it?

I wanted to give you a funny and a like rating but I settled for like. If we got every member of the sea eagles to become a voting member of the rsl we could take it over haha

It would not take much to get a faction elected to the board, usually they only have a few spots up at any time. And members don't vote en mass

The problem is the proxies. Pretty sure when you abstain from voting the votes get proxied don’t they?

Would need to read the voting rules or speak to the returning officer.
From my experience with club voting if 1000 vote, there will be several factions ( interest groups) who vote against each other and keep themselves out, and the old guard stay in with their 30% of the vote.

Yeah, but the articles of what each club/association is formed for will be quite different. One to propagate rugby league, the other to support veterans (which is a long bow these days). The rsl would need to change its constitution.

They are really upset still when the rebuild turned theirs and the closest one is in North Curly

This is exactly the model that the Drugcastle Knights have just gone to but that was a local Leagues Club “Wests” who took them over. They are also a club flushed with cash. Their members voted for it and it mostly occurred as they got shafted by their sole private owner who thought he was taking over the world (Tinkler). Sound familiar?

The wests leagues club has league in its articles of association
