TITANS coach John Cartwright has labelled Manly “arrogant†as the war of words between the two clubs escalated last night with Nathan Friend claiming the Sea Eagles have “no options†in attack.
Cartwright was responding to comments by Manly players in yesterday’s Manly Daily over claims made by Friend that the Sea Eagles were “skylarking†in their 28-10 victory at Brookvale Oval.
Second-rower Glenn Hall called Friend a “sook†while Perry told the Queenslander to focus on “Mad Mondayâ€Â.
Cartwright yesterday took aim at both Manly forwards, and didn’t miss.
“Our guys felt Manly became arrogant out there after they scored a few tries,†the ex-Australian forward said.
“That’s typical of Manly. They’ve treated other clubs that way for 60 years. It’s good to see the new players that go there don’t change.â€Â
Manly CEO Grant Mayer said the Sea Eagles are not cocky and told the Titans to move on.
“People have got to realise rugby league is a sport and they are getting way too serious about all this,†he said. “We are not arrogant, we are self-confident.â€Â
Friend yesterday had a chuckle when told of Cartwright’s “arrogant†comments.
“I’m glad I’m not the only one,†he said.
When asked if Manly have the goods to win the competition, he said: “Defensively, they are a quality outfit across the park, but, Manly seem to have no options (in attack).
“They scored two of their tries against us from kicks where the bounce of the ball went their way. They need to work on a few areas come finals time.â€Â
At least they will be there, unlike the Titans who host the Wests Tigers on the Gold Coast in a meaningless match on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Sea Eagles chase the minor premiership in their encounter with Penrith at CUA Stadium tomorrow evening.
