Talau is a bit of a loss but not that much, best position is wing and with contracted guys would be a waste of funds.
Yeah, better than some we have, but unless you can magically move guys on with no cost to club then letting him go is how it has to be.
Bagging club for this is a little silly in my opinion.
But signing Saab to a very long term deal makes so much sense.

What does that do for the situation in front of you?
Apart from complaining about the past.
How does it fix it,you just magically disappear players off the books? When Saab resigned he was being utilised well, let's see how he goes with Fogarty next year, who would you offload him to on a multi year contract?

It is a good point, that our spine players haven't been able to utilise Saab's strengths very effectively in the latter part of the year. We've probably seen him reach full pace, maybe once or twice in the past three months?

That said, I don't know if Fogarty would be the one to unlock him. I think it comes down to Tom.

Also, in this case, I don't think the original commenter is asking if we could get rid of Saab, it's wondering why we gave him an additional upgrade from 2026 out to 2029, for very little reason. He's not exactly a core part of our game, like Paseka is. He's just a quick winger. It was a strange decision, both at the time, and in hindsight.

Never kicked on, seem like a terrific young fella. Hope he goes well in his next gig whatever that is

One of his natural strengths besides speed is his height. Sure our 6 and 7 have not set him up enough for the Coates/Tupou/Marky M play but when they have he rarely converts.

It his lack of progress backed by a long term deal not afforded to others which is what annoys me most with Saab.

@Smokin Joe I respect your opinion and I’m trying not to look back but Saab is not going forward in development at the expense of other players like Talau and Falalo.

I get what you are saying and actually agree with you,I would not sign a specialist winger to a long term deal.
However, that is the hand we have and we are pretty well stocked now in outside backs.
Talau probably wants more than we can offer,we can't just have so much money invested in outside backs.
We have TT,Lehi,Koula,Garrick and Saab signed as starters and Willett,Faulalo and probably Wilson and Schoupp(back row/centre) now signed(Feledy is supposedly on a Train and Trial and may also win a spot).
Yep,Saab has not kicked on this year and get that people may prefer Talau and are annoyed that the club has put itself in this situation.
I get that we can't give Talau what he wants and will let him go,however for me his only spot as a quality NRL player is as a winger,I don't think he is NRL quality elsewhere(all opinions).
As a side note,I wonder if DCE crap play this year has hindered a bit as well,Fogarty is very good at getting the ball to where it needs to be and makes very smart decisions and may help Saab a bit next year(time will tell)
