Garrick

Great player… I was dismissive of Reubs early on and I was wrong… been an admirer of his commitment for some time but he is simply the best winger we have and it has frustrated the sh*t out of me to see him played out of position… his finishing is huge for us and we cannot afford to waste him…

That defensive play and the ground Reubs covered last night was kinda like an inverse of his attacking efforts in that 2021 try of the year against the cows where he also ran like 150m in the one play from the dead ball line to gift Turbo a try at the end.

The bloke is effort personified.

The effort from Garrick to chase down Anderson on the right on the 50m line in their long-range try, then sprint across the field to tackle Coates on the left touchline didn't prevent the try, but did make sure that Coates had to score in the corner. The conversion attempt from the touchline hit the inside post which ended up saving 2 points, which was the winning margin at the end of the game... great effort.
And if we were two behind, brooks doesn't kick for a field goal, grant doesn't run into his leg, no two points for us. 16 -18.

Well spotted!

Garrick didn’t need to run Coates down if Saab didn’t casually come in off his wing to create more work for Garrick.
Bring back Talua.Saab is just plain lazy!
Leave Rueben where he is
Umm not sure how that relates to what I said, but sure, garrick is playing well on the wing

Moving Tom back to FB weakens the entire right side for the sake of getting an extra 10% at fullback. Those right side inadequacies are already far too easy for other sides to exploit. I don't think it's an accident that since Tom was moved we are 3-0.

I really hope Siebold isn't dumb enough to undo this change. Better to let Tom and Koula roam than put Tom back to FB.

I know it was somewhat unrelated but I was acknowledging Rueben’s excellent performances on the wing and used this as a great example.

Very good points

I have a feeling he’ll be back in centres soon. As soon as Tom hits peak fitness, I think Seibs will move him to fullback.
I think Hoppa might end up at right centre. When he was playing NSW Cup last year, right centre is where Hoppa was until they switched him over to fullback. They didn't switch him because he was playing poorly, but instead because the Pommy fullback wasn't going very well.

That effort on Coates last night showed to me that he is more than capable of defending in the line.

He reads the plays bloody well too. It's almost like he's five seconds in the future. I think he'd make a great defensive centre.

@Ryan (wherever he is) at the start of this year, said that this would be our best backline, and as the year goes on, the more I think he was right:

1. Turbo
2. Saab
3. Koula
4. Hoppa
5. Garrick

Anyone notice NAS 'warm up' by coincidentally sprinting up next to Garrick just as he was moving into kick a sideline conversion? Gaz should have been given another shot!
I'd forgotten that in the afterglow of our victory, but yes, that was typical Melbourne Storm bullsh#t. I have never seen anyone do that to a kicker in a game of rugby league. And Reuben didn't look happy about it either.
