I did enjoy it. Even the streaming didn't stop/start too much.

lara had the first few rounds until Alvarez worked himself into the fight.

Then, as you say, Lara ran away all fight and kept pretending he had low blows, kidney punches - the usual malarkey! etc etc etc to the ref who wasn't buying any of it!

Alvarez' body shots would slow down a tank! Certainly made lara's dancing slow down.

glad he won in the end. He was there to fight.

Unfortunately that delusional judge (giving Lara the bout) will cause enough smoke to fan an argument.

If Canelo gives him a rematch, he'll knock him out (as he usually does).

44-1-1 (31 knockouts) for Canelo.

And he's about to turn the ripe old age of 24...

Freakin' superstar, mate.

I want a return to the great days of the 80's Duran v Hagler v Leonard v Hearns. Now that was boxing.

It saddens me to see the state of boxing these days. It's a circus, not a sport. I long for the day we have a single unified association with one belt in each division and undisputed champions.

Mundane has to take responsibility for killing the sport here. So much talent but so little desire to do anything except talk trash and milk the local PPV market. Had he taken his obvious skills off shore and had a real go he could have had the whole country behind him and boxing could have benefited enormously in this country. Instead he polarised the nation and everyone got disillusioned waiting for him to deliver on his promise of world domination.

I hope Daniel Geale wins, but it will be a tough ask.

A lot like his (Mundane) footy career.

The actual accomplishments differed greatly from the self-promotion and assertions mate.

Daniel Geale is the real deal to me, in comparison.

Agree though...Very big ask to avoid Golovkin's bombs and try to wear him down.

If anyone can, it could be Dan.

Impeccable defence and some lead in his punches too.

I couldn't care less about unifications, divisions, pay cheques.......

I enjoy boxing on a much more personal level. I like the training. I admire the skill set. I love the fact that when it comes down to it, it's you against an opponent, and that's it!

I love the speed and toughness of the Mexican and Philippines boxers. I love the brute power of the heavy weights. All boxers deserve a certain level of respect due to their dedication and determination to win. But that's true of all sports I guess.

I rate Mundine as a boxer. An annoying person I'd wager, but he can box. You have to remember the nature of the sport. It's not about your rip and tear, knock out ability, it's about scoring points. Mundine is very good a drawing opponents in and is fast and accurate with the counter punch. It's just as important to be able to make your opponent miss with his punches, as it is to land your own. Maybe more so. You will knock up a hell of a lot quicker if your punches are missing, rather than landing.

Geale is a very good all round boxer. I think he'll go alright in his next fight. He's a clever boxer that can think on his feet and change things up in an instant.

I like Manny Pacquiao too @mozgrame

It's a pity he hasn't fought Mayweather yet.
He still MIGHT, but I doubt it; and he may have had a better chance before now.

Canelo got as close as any to beating Floyd (which is Canelo's only loss in 46 pro-fights mate!)

Some say Mayweather will avoid Canelo now too......I would love to see a rematch there, but don't believe it will happen.

I will give Mundine some credit. He did beat good fighters now and then, including Danny Greene, to my surprise.

It's just all diluted by the mouth, for mine.

Danny almost killed himself to get down to Mundine's weight, so he did well to last the distance I think.

Manny is having trouble arranging a fight at the moment between himself and Chris Algieri. I'd be scared to if I was Algieri lol

Here's a link to that story RE ; http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/559142/20140715/boxing-news-2014-pacquiao-camp-losing-patience.htm#.U8SVyWflqM8

Thanks for that link Moz.

Yeah I think it's a bit more than just the purse Algieri is worried about.

And all that subterfuge and BS that clouds the negotiations is another reason why the average-joe scoffs at the sport.

I try to avoid a lot of that and, as they say, just believe it when I see it.

Maidana didn't look outclassed by Mayweather, but also as these things often go, Floyd will probably win more easily 2nd time around.

I just hope Mayweather finally fights Pacquiao and/or Canelo again mate!

I just realised a better title for the thread would be : "Guards up, who likes boxing?"

lolololol

/carry on, sorry.

Good to see a few in here!

Me too. Have you seen the clip of Mayweather where he won that fight by hitting his opponent when he really wasn't ready? I know, "protect yourself at all times", but seriously, the bloke he was fighting was trying to apologise for an "accidental ??" head butt at the time and the ref was almost standing between them. Last fight on here

Mayweather is an awesome boxer, no doubt. And he has defeated a long list of good boxers, but that one incident really put me off him. Manny might be getting on a bit, but I think if Canelo got another crack at Mayweather, he would end his run. Canelo has a killer body rip and if he could keep the bout to "in fighting", he'd clean Mayweather up.

Canelo will be a superstar and these narrow losses are going to make him hungry and devastatingly dangerous. Once he gains the crown he may struggle to find challengers!!

I saw that fight replayed on Foxtel @mozgrame

It's the main reason I've gone very cold on Mayweather, too.

There's other obvious reasons I'm no fan of the ''Money'' man, but that was seriously farked up!

Yeah, he's gotta be something special in the ring (to have his undefeated record) but so much more is required to be a true champion to me, than what Mayweather displays.

Oh, and @Alan

That's because I can't decide between my galah, crow or moose onesie old mate!

Absolutely, that's what makes it so frustrating. He seemed more intent on milking every last drop of money out of the Australian public rather than REALLY testing himself against the best. In his prime he could have made a go of it at the top level, but every time he came up against someone decent he got rocked, apart from Green (I'm not including the Sugar Shane debacle in this as that was a joke). After Ottke sat him on his arse it was like he was scared to leave these shores. He seemed to think that by staying here and talking big that the mountain would come to Mohammed.

Anyway I was reading the other day that Mundane Green II is still being talked about. I think they should both give it away TBH.

I remember that...(and saw it again on your posted clip) - against ortez.

It was a punk act for sure and like you, turned me off his great achievements. (I'm sure he cares what I think). It seemed suss that the ref was happy to do the count.

Some of these guys are so fast, it'd be a month later and I'd still wouldn't have known what hit me.

Just a quick note about @Chip and Chase regarding Mundine and Danny Green too.

Danny hasn't fought for over 18months and has referred to himself as retired regularly.
He's also 41 now too.

Mundine said (after Clottey gave him that hiding) he couldn't retire on that note.

As @mozgrame pointed out, the difference in weight classes now makes it even harder to see a legitimate and fair contest between the two.

So yeah I agree, they should both just retire permanently and we can all move on.

Just stumbled onto this thread.

I love boxing! Did a little bit of sparing for fitness in my younger days but I never had a amateur fight.

Love watching the fights when I can, especially live. The last one I went to was the Mundine v Geale rematch.

@RiverEagle will you get the pay per view for Geale's next fight?

I'll be outta town as it happens mate.

Going to Melbourne that weekend for the Swans v Hawthorn game!

Blasphemy I know...lol.

Depending on the plan we might be able to watch it at a friend's place down there, or a pub on the road.

I'll get to see it one way or another I hope. I'm hoping like hell Daniel can get the upset; but Golovkin is something special mate.

Good news for Manny!!

By Chris Williams: The Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KO’s) vs. Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) is reportedly a done deal for November 22nd at the Venetian Casino & Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

Dan Rafael of ESPN is reporting that the Algieri wrapped up the deal on Tuesday following a meeting with his promoters Joe DeGuardia and Artie Pellulo. The fight will be televised on HBO pay-per-view.

Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum is taking a big risk in having the fight take place in Macao, China, which is where Arum staged Pacquiao’s fight against Brandon Rios last year.

I'm not greatly familiar with Algieri at all.

But to be undefeated in 20 is quite a fair start.

Not much KO power there by the looks (or he's actually fought and out-boxed some good fighters)

Still believe Manny will take care of business (he was clinical against Tim Bradley, yet brutal as well).

Long way til November moz...You know anything could still happen, or not.

Haha fair enough. My missus has a bub due in under 2 weeks so it may be a last minute decision if I decide to get the pay per view.

No doubt Geale is underdog for this one but I'm sure he'd prefer it this way :)
