Not sure that he has done too much wrong. What halves are going better than him?
I agree with everything you've said... he needs to be better we have one of the best forward packs and he needs to run more, what happened to his show and go or his short kicking game? I think once origin is over he will settle in better especially with turbo back.. i wish walker would play right center. Do you think des will use parker once hes back? Moving walker to the right replacing suli? This is a timely thread. DCE is well above average, but he is not taking full advantage of the massive base our forwards are providing. Sure he has some great plays in him, but we need the consistency he showed in Origin Game 3 last year.
His kicking game is a little rocks or diamonds and he doesn’t seem to be able to straighten the attack at times. Foran did this beautifully because he played direct at the line.
Unfortunately Cust is still a rookie, but Des looks like he has got him reading the Foran playbook.
Our forwards were tearing right through the middle of the Titans at will, but DCE was providing very little space for Tommy and the centres.
His kicking game was pretty sub standard on the last tackle plays in the opposition red zone.
To compete in the big matches at the end of the year, DCE is going to have to step up and guide the team around the park. At the moment, he is still a little bit hit and miss.
I love him and wouldn’t swap him for anyone, great competitor, skilful and tremendous leader. But it’s those 1%ers that leave him in the shadows of truly elite halfbacks.
With a weapon like Tom, DCE has to deliver quality ball in space while going to the line. Crabbing will not cut it
Just my honest thoughts
Now that Norman is in the Maroons, Hunt will be forever favouring his Drags half over Chez 😎Dont think he plays his best with Hunt at hooker either. That clown goes the wrong option all the time. When DCE is set and calls for it, looking to run it or set up an outside back, Hunt either goes himself or throws it to munster. Then he will throw DCE the ball on the last for a kick or hospital ball under pressure.
Funny you have come up with this assertion given Hunt was probably QLD's best player in Game 2. He kicked a 40/20 and made over 50 tackles. I don't think 9 is the problem at all.Agree here but Hunt is gone after this series and I think Kevin knows he’s the problem but doesn’t have an alternative. Friend would have been a shoe in at 9 and I’m still not sure we won’t see McCullough in game 3. Hunts origin career is nearly over imo.
Checking into Airport today my missus says " Is that Daly cherry Evans " my wordy dirdy it was and was able to get a great photo and a yarn with him . I was starstruck and he was more then happy to have time for me . What a champion fella he is . He was off to Brissy to meet up with the QLD squad and I had to ask about Manly . He said they are a very happy playing group and thinks they are in for a good finish .
Hunt also made alot of bad decisions from dummy half.Funny you have come up with this assertion given Hunt was probably QLD's best player in Game 2. He kicked a 40/20 and made over 50 tackles. I don't think 9 is the problem at all.
The issue is they have an average pack and there is a distinct lack of leg speed in their forwards.
Because he let green go.Interesting win% comparison with JT
Baz destroyed Chez' aggregate big time 😎

Ergo:The roster they play with is directly correlated to their winning percentage.
No one player can carry a Team for a Season, let alone halves partner![]()
He could of had 2 tries to his name if Elliot wasnt a spastic and if siro passed inside to him after his break..dce will get better as the year goes on once this origin crap is over the combinations will become alot better.Certainly some bull**** about DCE in this thread.
He is a massive inclusion for Manly that cannot be understated. It has nothing to do with flashes of brilliance; the DCE of 2019 leaves that for Tommy Turbo. It is Daly's control that has been most valuable over the last 3 games. We fought hard when he was out but there were a few loses there where the kicking game and 5th tackle options in general, were detrimental to the result. Now with Chez back, we can turn the ball over to the opposition at the right end of the field.
Too many people discount the importance of turning the opposition pack around in the modern game. It is everything. You cannot win a game of football when you consistently give the opposition the ball back 30-40m out from their own line; something that was happening set after set when Chez was out injured.
We are competing in games because of his 5th tackle options (e.g. when we were in a rut on the weekend, he got the ball down the short side and drilled the ball into touch, allowing us to regroup) and kick chase.
The way he ran from dummy half and put Siro into the hole for the second try was clever too.
My point is this...he may not be scoring highlight reel tries, but 4 points is 4 points and the play to put Siro over against the Titans is just as important as a piece of Turbo magic.
Since Foran left, the "eyes up" DCE has gone missing because has been forced to become a game manager. He briefly returned to "eyes up" footy when Green took control, but that lasted a season. He is refining his game as a "manager" now and I think he is finally starting to offer something consistently strong in this regard. He will keep getting better at it and it will be to our benefit.
Plus started without a 5/8 at all in 2016Because he let green go.
Imho we can beat anyone on our day. Playing storm in a few weeks will be a great test of what we are capable against the best team. Same with souffs but there arent in the best form especially without the BurgiThe thing about this year as opposed to say the past 3 years, is that Cherry is actually getting help on the field by others playing well, the whole team is actually contributing and its making his job a lot easier. While in recent years he has had to bust his gut week in, week out to compensate for the lack of others (such as 2018 when he was basically our ONLY half for the entire season), this year just about everyone is contributing.
He's not standing out so much this year because with the team actually playing well, he doesn't have to try and do everything. He's actually got a decent 5/8 alongside of him in either Cust or Croker (and to a lesser extent LG). He's had Tom and Elliot doing well at fullback and the centres and wingers are also contributing well (in 2018, our wingers scored a combined total of 15 tries. So far in 2019, Jorge and Garrick have scored a combined 14). And most importantly, our forward pack save the odd injury, suspension or rep unavailability, has pretty much remained the same since Round 1.
Teams that win premierships have players that contribute right across the park, they aren't one or two man shows. The teams that finish in the bottom part of the ladder usually revolve around one or two good players, and when they don't play well then generally the team plays like crap most of the time. Right now, Manly are a team that has players from all positions contributing which is part of why we are where we are on the ladder.
