I was wrong

Stop trying to build a strawman.

You don't know my opinion on the subjects you assume you do, because I haven't offered any.

Instead you're desperately trying to corner me into an argument that has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Charlie Kirk made some abhorrent statements.

All you're doing is employing "whataboutism" to (transparently) try to deflect & distract from the FACTS - that Charlie Kirk said those things & there is NO EXCUSE for them.

You're looking more & more like the "people with room temperature IQ" you were deriding only a couple of pages ago.
I never derided anyone or commented about people having a low iq. Nor have I posted anything that might be considered anti LGBTQ. I'm not trying to corner you, I was trying to understand what it is that you are standing for. I was attempting to have a polite exchange, not a name calling aggressive tit for tat, poorly veiled insult session. I understand that is not possible with you. For a moment I thought it might be. Good luck in the next predictable Silvertails/internet war you engage in. Hopefully you'll find an opponent as dedicated and robust as yourself to insult and exchange laughing emojis with.

1) re others? I don't know. Some MSNBC bloke apparently sacked before Kimmel for what he said about the murder (don't know what his comment was) plus possibly many people (or not), because it's been widely reported that trump supporters including the vice-president are urging people to dob in people to their employers

2) re Kimmel free speech violation? He was sacked for what he said

3) re my analogy - it's a valid point. Kimmel was shut down because the would-be dictator didn't like the constant poking fun at him. Literally threatened a journo with the same just a day or so ago.
So for people who defend that, presumably they are fine with the political boss of the day getting people sacked from their job if they don't like what they say?
That's how I saw it anyway.

1. The MSNBC guy you are talking about is Mathew Dowd. His comments were extremely disturbing basically saying he got what he deserved. If you watch the clip you can hear his co-panelists that were also democrats in shock & disgusted by what he said.

2. I’m fairly sure Kimmel was put on leave not sacked firstly. I think an apology (even if he doesn’t mean it) will see him back on TV screens. He has been talking cr*p about Trump + MAGA as a whole for 10+ years now & hasn’t been silenced. The problem is he crossed the line with his comments this time according to his employers.

This is NOT a violation of free speech - it’s called consequences to your actions. Protections for workers vary state by state, but across most of the U.S., it’s “at-will” employment law, meaning employers can choose to hire and fire as they see fit, including over employees’ speech.

3. Kimmel wasn’t shut down for poking fun, I literally seen Fallon & another late night host poking fun at Trump again this morning like usual. Good for them, I don’t have a problem with it.

For what it’s worth I don’t think Kimmel’s comments were the crime of the century. I found them tasteless & stupid but that’s just my personal opinion. His bosses/network obviously thought it would cause enough outrage to cost them money so they acted quick.

For your last question no I wouldn’t be ok with anyone getting fired just for their beliefs wether it be political, religious etc.
If they cheer on/promote violence I think they would be silly not to sack them though for the safety of everyone around who might not share similar views.

I apologise, it was @Buddy Love who made the comment about IQ.

Your past few replies to me about Charlie Kirk’s comments appear to be rants about LGBTQ & Muslims.

I don’t see how they can be taken any other way?

Do you believe fundamental Muslims want to live side by side with non Muslims in peace? What do you think of Muslims in Australia celebrating the October 7th attacks?

Are there any Muslim ruled countries you would like to live/raise a family? Have you seen some of the hate being preached by many Muslims around the world? What do you think about the disproportionately high amount of Muslim criminal shootings around Sydney and Melbourne? Because you would have to be entirely disingenuous to not admit there is a very real problem there. Why is that? What do you think about the tens of thousands of Africans being butchered by Muslims? Do you feel as much outrage for the Christian Africans? What about the Taliban and the disgraceful way women are treated? How did ISIS become such a big thing? Then there's the terrible murders at Charlie Hebdo, because someone dared to draw a cartoon of Mohammad. The list just goes on and on.

You also decry Kirk's views on Trans and gay people. Below are some of the countries where being gay is considered a crime. Where being gay can be a death penalty. How anyone finds a way to defend Islam while bleating about the rights of the LGBTQ community is beyond me. Christians might not agree with the LGBTQ movement but they aren't killing gays or outlawing their existence en masse.

I'm merely pointing out that using Islam in any passage of writing that highlights Charlie Kirk's views on trans people is entirely ridiculous. Many parts of the Islamic world kill gays. Charlie Kirk never killed anyone. A great deception is being perpetuated on unthinking Australians who watch the LGBTQ community and the Muslim brotherhood marching together to free Palestine. Do you really believe Muslims would be happy to welcome gays and trans people into their mosques? It is a con which is akin to the Klu Klux Clan marching in a Black Lives Matter protest.

And yet, here we are. Aussies decrying unjust words spoken by a guy towards gays. Those same people then defending Islam who kill gays. Madness.

1. I looked it up, this seems to be what he said:
“Hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions,” Dowd said, adding: “You can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and then not expect awful actions to take place.”
“We don’t know if this was a supporter shooting their gun off in celebration. So we have no idea about this.”
'Expect' does not equal 'deserve'. None of that is justifying the murder or applauding it, so far as I can see.
Nor is it saying he got what he deserved, which is how you characterise his words.
Insensitive to say straight after the shooting? Maybe

2. Kimmel's employers have been fine with it as you say for 10 years. But they've been on notice that Trump was after him and FCC boss came out and made a threat. The employers need govt approval for a merger... ergo bowed to pressure and sacked the bloke for what he said.

3. Trump has already said Fallon is next!!!

Anyway we can disagree and watch with interest what unfolds in the US, although I'm not at all sure that we are watching 'at a safe distance', so to speak. If you noticed Dutton adopting some maga stances last election you'll have seen how much we're influenced by what happens in the US.

We can disagree on if we think people deserve to be fired or not & that’s fine. At the end of the day it’s a Fact no one’s free speech has been violated. My prediction is Kimmel will be back in the next few weeks.

What I find ridiculous is seeing people like Walz, Harris, Kimmel etc who have called for people to be fired over what they’ve said in the past now doing a 180 saying you should be able to say whatever you want because the shoe is on the other foot lol

Bit of hypocrisy you think?!!
By the way, do you have a view on the Fox frontman Kilmeade suggesting homeless people get involuntary euthenasia (killed) last week? That was actually the worst I've heard, when you think what some people have been sacked for!

What you say about islam is 100% true. After studying it's bloody history it's satanic books and observing the 2nd stage of jihad unfolding in front of my eyes. Enough is enough! The world is waking up, Europe is finally waking up.

Unite the Kingdom march was the 1st step, 3 million people marched for their country. The next one will be even bigger 💪💪💪

You should goto a channel called jihadwatch.org

Over 50,000 terrorist attacks since 9/11

I don’t think Jimmy Kimmel should be sacked for what he said and agree it is free speech, even though what he said was in very poor taste. What I find a little amusing is how some posters who appear left leaning ( nothing wrong with this btw) are now screaming free speech and the world is ending. Cancel culture is nothing new and has been used by both sides of politics for a very long time, it’s funny when it is only acknowledged when it is applied when a right government is in office. It’s also funny that no one here screamed free speech when Marty sheargold was recently sacked here in sunny Australia for his portrayal of women’s sport which was indeed in poor taste but ultimately free speech.

Quite right to point out it is a nuanced issue.
Maybe one difference is when a person who has a big megaphone such as a tv show or high profile posts or says stuff that demonises or promotes discrimination against a minority or disadvantaged group
(good example, Kilmeade, a top host on Fox, saying homeless people should be involuntarily euthenased (killed) (for which he notably didn't get sacked). Or anti-gay stuff

Quite different to, for example, criticising the most powerful person in the world? Yet Trump is complaining about it and now even claims it's illegal to constantly criticise him because he won the election, so broadcast companies might lose their licence.

The shows ratings were tanking in correlation to its becoming more blatantly leftist, and the stock price of the parent company Disney was doing likewise. Advertisers had had enough, and this was the last straw. Here’s a video which summarises things nicely.

NB It is touching to see the outrage from the leftists/socialists about the sacking of a multi, multi millionaire, pity there wasn’t any similar outrage for the ordinary folk that have felt the impact of cancel culture over the years.

Nothing to stop someone like George Soros starting his own TV channel and employing Kimmel.

Kimmel was not just criticising Trump he was criticising his supporters which we both agreed yesterday is a significant portion of the population. This is much broader that’s just trump and can not be separated by those using the free speech argument

Interesting comment on current US events from Garry Kasparov, Russian activist (and former chess champ). He says dictatorships happen a little at a time, step by step, talks about how Putin did away with free press in Russia not all at once but over several years

Ratings plummet for unfunny “comedian” with full TDS, advertisers lose money, parent company’s stock price plummets. Instead of adopting a more balanced stance, said “comedian” doubles down and suffers the consequences. Leftists suddenly become converts to “freedom of speech” after railing against it for 10+ years.

Hey ppl

Does anyone have clips of Kirk doing proper debates with people with any depth?
All I see is short gotchas and personal attacks
