Ivan Cleary

Rather than starting a new thread, I thought I'd use this one from early this year to post a thought. (Reading some of the above comments here is interesting now in hindsight)

Cleary's supposedly signed with Penrith from 2021 and staying at the Tigers in 2019-20, but the Tigers are allegedly in talks with the Broncos to acquire Bennett from 2019. Can't blame the Tigers, as you'd question if Cleary will now have both eyes focused on them.

So the thought occurred to me, now that Maguire's turned us down, what are the chances of Manly making Cleary an offer for 2019-20, especially if the Tigers replace him

Good idea, he knows defence and is a solid coach.

One more thing on Cleary - I'm amazed he's going back to Penrith in 2021, the club that previously sacked him. I know its the lure of coaching his son and the almighty $, but the lure must be huge to be swallowing his pride. Similarly this is why I can't see Tooves returning to Manly, but if the lure was big enough then I guess never say never.

If tooves could come back to manly id bet my life that he would. Penn's can't admit to their mistakes

Gould has made plenty of big calls and not a lot have worked out......will look very silly if Cleary comes in and they miss the finals

With the amount of quality juniors, and their poker machine revenue, the 'Riff have under achieved. They should be a powerhouse. Currently they are just a Gushouse.

Tooves said on Fox one night he would come back
