Just from observation, a lot of teams would rather slow down the ruck and give away a 6-again early in the tackle count, than allow the opposition a quick play-the-ball with a staggered and retreating defensive line and risk conceding points that way.

There isn't really a statistic that says how many points are conceded or saved from that decision though.

Jurbo is the best defensive player in the NRL and we'd be lost without him. However, defence is only 50% of the assignment.
When was the last time you saw him break a tackle? I don't know if he even tries to bend the line; perhaps his aim is a quick play-the-ball?
To gain points in a MOM he'll need to cobble together some attack.

Yes, agree.

I suspect we are desperate to slow down the play the ball. I didn't take this exercise past about game 6 or 7 but earlier in the season I checked, and we had only been the faster play the ball team in one game (the loss to Parra I believe). Note that Reuben also rates high for this: it isn't happening by accident.

If we are consistently the slower play the ball team that may also have something to do with our small running metres from dummy half.
