For mine Souths have never had a talent issue. They had an attitude, Fitness, and just not happy issue. And Lateral has led the way.

And Bennetts already seems to have that half way fixed already.

Not every potential peaks, and not everyone will flop.

But U could argue their forwards is better than ours.

The shoe could be huge if he fires.

They will have pace out wide.

Sullivan would gives em depth and may be a ball playing utility.

I hope we can be better than Souths, but I think people are making out Bennet needs to work miracles. I just don't see their list anywhere near that bad.

Funny old game, I remember watching a Saints V Manly Under 20s game and it was basically Sullivan V Schuster...both sublime just going should for shot....and here we are, both at a crossroads.

IMO, the problem comes when these young players that are talented, yes, get severely overhyped as juniors, I'm guessing, by their agents or clubs. They buy into this hype and never realise their potential and instead, they bounce from club to club. Players like Shuster and Sullivan are prime examples and you can throw in Moses Suli and Fainus as others.

You can't succeed on talent alone in the modern game. It requires self discipline and years of ongoing dedication. Its tough for a young kid age 18 or 19 to make the sacrifices that need to be made both present and long term. It really boils down to how badly they want to succeed and stay at the top level. When they think they are there and psychologically drop their intensity, their effort and ultimately their performances drop. Some call it the second year syndrome and it's a bit of an tough awakening when they realise this is going to be hard work for a long long time. Being an elite athlete requires dedication and determination that not everybody possesses. I hope our young talents have got what it takes not only to get to NRL level but to stay there for a long time. They can learn a lot from DCE.

Souths will be a much better side this coming season. I expect them to be in contention for a spot in the 8. Bennett always has his teams competitive. And like hoops said he has a really good roster on his hands. Much better one than the dolphins.
