Joey Walsh

I mentioned in the matchday thread but things get lost pretty quickly in there.

Very interesting to see Walsh up in the coaches box during the game.

You really only ever see injured key players up there like a Moses, Turbo, Cleary, Ponga etc.

Never rookies.

Club obviously have high hopes.

You’d assume they’d have high hopes for him and they want him to learn as much as they can,but I suspect he was also up in the coaching box because he wouldn’t of had anywhere or anyone else to sit with at the ground.Doubt they’d allow him to sit on or near the bench on the sideline

Surely we'd of had staff up there seated behind the bench no?

Is it possible that Brooks will play halfback, Lehi plays 5/8th & Walsh comes in on the wing for Lehi to blood him in first grade old skool stylee?
Not sure we want our great white hope halfback taking yardage hit ups into forwards each set. Playing wing these days is very different to the days of old.

I remember when Hogkinson left for the Dogs we debut and fresh faced DCE straight into the halves with Foz

Im hoping Walsh can do the same

Me too, but

If the coach and CEO thought that, they wouldn't have signed Fogarty for 3 years.

If he is picked, and its a big if, I hope he brains it.

I'm sure someone with a better memory will correct me if I am wrong but didn't Manly send DCE to play with the Sunshine Coast for a year before he made his first grade debut?

He didn't go from under 20s straight to first grade.

DCE didn’t debut in first grade until he was 22 after playing 20’s at Manly then up to the Sunny Coast for a season of QCup.So a fair bit more experience and age on Walsh

Correct. Daly might even have been 22 or 23 when he made his debut. I remember the game, it was in Melbourne and I was there (one of @Mark from Brisbane travelling tours from memory. Manly lost but a solid round 1 performance .

Walsh by comparison is 19 (his birthday was yesterday!)

Hmm actually now that I looked it up and found he turned 19 yesterday, added to being in the game day squad last week... methinks the odds of him getting a debut run in the 17 next week are better than I previously thought! 💡
