Joey Walsh

Won the comp up there with Tony williams
You are pretty much on point with your general posting but unless my recollection is i bit off .
Quite sure that Sunshine coast win was in 2009 with Trent Hodgkinson the 7 and T . Rex as the 6 in the final ,
Then in 2010 , D C E with a full season with Sunshine coast coming from the 20 "s and Hodgo , the Manly i st grade 7
D C E replacing Hodgo in 2011 when he moved to the Dogs

Ahh you are right.

Tony Williams playing as a 6 must have been daunting for the opposition and showed a bit of skill level with the ball from memory .
Probably a bit under utilized in that area when in the Manly i st grade pack but could have been other reasons as well
Falls into the "what do the opposition least want"
Trex with ball in hand.

Can't believe Manly have signed Fogarty for three years. Two should have been maximum.
I believe The Initial offer was for two years
But Raiders matched it and the club added another year to make it a three year contract
This is what pressure does

DCE didn’t debut in first grade until he was 22 after playing 20’s at Manly then up to the Sunny Coast for a season of QCup.So a fair bit more experience and age on Walsh
Yep, he was player of the year in QCup the year before he debuted.
So a full season in u20's and a full season in QCup so quite a bit of experience really

Well...it's ok if Walsh doesn't come along as fast as everyone hopes he will....or he has a season ending injury. then the 3 years won't be too bad...I think.

I'm sure someone with a better memory will correct me if I am wrong but didn't Manly send DCE to play with the Sunshine Coast for a year before he made his first grade debut?

He didn't go from under 20s straight to first grade.
Yeah i believe your correct.. so Walsh probably need the same hard nosed football against men

I think there was another huge factor in DCE as a rookie going so well in his debut year in 2011 on top of his relative experience.

Thats the experience of the bloke playing beside him. Not foz, but I'm sure that they also had combination helped, but the experienced Grand final campaigner game hardened Gifty.

DCE game was kept basic, kick long on the last looked like his main mission.

He's a natural running talent.

But I just don't think the Clive Churchill medal alone, says enough. Gifty was the King in 2011.

I forget if DCE was the first rookie half to ever win a comp or if it had been done in the 1930s or something far back but it's a rare feat. Which speaks of just how important experience at 7 is to a teams chances.
