Kaeo Weekes

His debut was R19 2022 off the bench. He deserved to get an NRL debut and at the time that was an opportunity. Next one was R24, also off the bench, then R25 selected at fullback.

Started 2023 again pushing hard for first grade and was chosen for each of our opening 7 games, on the bench except R5 (5/8) and R9 (fullback). His final 3 NRL games for Manly were all at fullback.

He was given opportunities and didn't quite nail them, which is no slight on him, but helps explain why Manly didn't stand in his way for a chance elsewhere.
Was aware that Kaeo had played some or had started some previous games from the bench which included a debut appearance ., One match in particular against the Knights where he scored a very smart try playing at 9
Really meant to mention that run on inclusion position against the Panthers was his first Manly stint [ or debut stint ] in a 6 role .
Anyway looked like it was only ever going to be either a full back or halfs role for him in the Big League and the necessary room for him to show his best talent and looks like also working out that way at the back for the Raiders

This inability to spot talent is killing our club and a few others.

No one expects them to get it right every time but they are batting about 3 from 15. And the three are TKO, Brown and Jazz hardly setting the world on fire but doing thier job.

Talau no good? Simpkin?
fair enough. it's all just opinions.

This logic simply does not work anymore.

Players know what they are worth and they will go where they can get it, even if it means stirring up s**t behind the scenes to agitate for an early release from their contract.

You may, if you are very lucky, get to keep a player on unders for a year, or two max, if they are performing at a higher level than their current pay packet.
Canberra would have got Weekes on the very cheap considering his appearances for Manly didnt add much value to his worth. I'd say it was more of lifeline than anything offered by the Raiders. If Weekes played a whole season in the same position and performed quite well then yes your argument would apply. But he was played in different positions in and out of the lineup, and scapegoated for some of those losses. Can't really say that would have added value to his worth.

The problem is not bringing juniors through and giving them a proper crack to play a good amount of games to develop. We only bring them in if they seem to be able to have exceptional talent from the get go - ie Turbo,Lehi.

How can you expect him to perform playing all those different positions, especially against teams like Penrith. Ricky has given him confidence by giving him one position and sticking with it. During that time, he was putting in Arthur and Johns in and out of the lineup in the halves over a space of a few games. Hardly would fill you with confidence.

What did you want the club to do.. drop Tommy Turbo for Weeks...and this was 2021/2022 when Weekes debut in 22...he was never going to be our fullback
Or do you think they were going to drop DCE .. seriously
Good luck to him..he needed to move on.

He's also very Rocks and Diamonds ...he goes weeks without notice then has an explosion game..big deal.

Ranked 24th in fullbacks according to the Stat's.

Sorry but most seem to ignore this fact.

Most seem to ignore all facts.

We are so reactive on here, a player has a good game and they come out of the "wood work" screaming down the club and it's management
"Another superstar let go"
"Our recruitment and retention sucks"
" coach has no idea"
"The clubs f#$ked" i could go on and on..
What ever happened to logical thinking and supporting your Club!

Agree , I think the most appropriate word you typed is “ reactive “ they see a past player having a good game and , bingo , why didn’t we keep him.

Really , what they should be doing is going back to that time and looking at why the player wasn’t kept.

In all cases there are usually good reasons.

In the case of Weekes , we had Turbo in his Dally M winning form, with at the time Garrick going well as backup.

I think Lehi mightn’t be in the picture back then but Koula certainly was.

So as I have said “ who are you discarding to give Weekes his shot at a regular first grade spot”??

This comes up all the time , why didn’t we keep JWH, or Gutho , or Ramien ( and many others ).

In each occasion there are very good reasons, which most on Silvertails choose to ignore.

Spot on

JWH was offered eyewatering money for his time, and I've spoken to him on a few occasions and he point blank told me he wanted to stay but the Manly pack was so strong at the time and the Roosters offer was a no brainer, Manly just couldn't come close with the roster we had.

Gutho the same, he had turbo in front of him, he knew that as they played all their juniors together, he wanted to be a fullback and again the Eels offer was a no brainer for him. And Manly did the right thing by letting him go.

Even Ramien.. in 2016 he was a junior.. the Sharks signed him for 2017-2018
We had

1 Brett Stewart
2 Tom Trbojevic
3 Jamie Lyon
4 Steve Matai
5 J Tafua
reserves-
Peta Hiku
Brad Parker
as our back line in 2016.. so people really think an 18 year old who's offered a 2 year NRL contract is going to knock it back knowing the players in front of him???

But most on here choose to forget all that.

I remember going to a game at Penrith when the 20’s comp was going and watching JWH destroy the Panthers.

But sitting next to my Panthers loving son in law ( RIP Mick) I remember saying “ where do we fit him in our current side for next year “.

And not long after he was offered ridiculous money to join the Roosters.

Looking back you can say “ if only “ , but that’s with hindsight , but without hindsight , a) where do you fit him b) how can you fit him into your cap space which might be $200k v the Rorters who probably offered him $500k.

Would I have loved JWH to be a life long Eagles player , 110% , do I understand why he wasn’t , absolutely.

Geez the Fainus all scored tries.. how did we let them go..😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Because they are overpaid and average first graders with an average manager.. lol
