Key signing imminent? (#nextweek)

We had enough to make Pearce an offer of $800K. So even if we get penalised $400K we still have enough for some pretty decent ‘squad players’...

That's not my take on it. We were after Thompson, but Pearce became available, so we offered him $800k and went cold on Thompson. Then, Pearce got spooked, and hooked up with Newcastle, so we offered Thommo $500k, which leaves us with $300k, enough to pinch Hodko or Carney, but nothing left to pay the fine, reportedly estimated at $400k. I think this is the problem.

You’d all do the same, it’s what you do for family!
Believe me, that’s what everyone says Mark. But I have met plenty of people in your position, who were hard pressed to do a quarter of what you’re doing. In this current society that grows more and more selfish by the day, close families aren’t so easy to find. Decent people and selflessness are no longer the norm.

When Hodkinson went to the Sharks, Carney was mentioned to the board again and it's a case of where else can we go?! So it looks like Toddy holds all the aces now and as reported, pending the cap resolution, he will be at Manly in 2018.

We need to have a complete squad of 30 regardless of the cap so if the NRL impose a 400-500k penalty, we might see Carney still arrive on a minimum wage with the release of one or two other players to free up space...if someone needs to be released, they'll have to be on some pretty decent coin because as mentioned, we still need to have 30 players under the cap.

For example, if we release a guy on 600k, we can sign 3 players at 200k etc.

Hopefully we will be cleared and it won't come to that.
Fair comment but he’s also a fair bit older ( and hopefully wiser) now.

And let’s face it most of us did some dickhead things when we were young.

How I made it to 21 is beyond me.
Carney is a goose. But the one positive this time around. I don't get the impression, returning to the NRL is at all about money for Carney.

May be wrong but didnt he have a big payment come his way not long back?

He certainly could have stayed in the UK on way bigger coin, then he would be on playing up in Cairns.

I get the impression he want to be back on the big stage. This is all about the football and proving he shouldn't have been in the UK.

But one things certain. After 4 years out. A pre season in the Cairns summer heat.. Todd wants this and knows what happens if he embarrasses the NRL's brand again.

Reckon as mentioned we'd be offering him a decent contract (probs like 200-300k) and believe we'd only be waiting for result of salary cap to see if we'd need to shed a player of around the same contract (like Brown). If that's the case and we have to shed a player then It's still probably worth it but I also hold faith in Croker. Could be depth, could be bench, could start. Either way it'd be good for manly

You should put a trademark on that hashtag. You'll be a deadset tycoon by the end of the year. That's the most common response I get every time I ask my eldest son to do something for me.

Well after all these years finally something I’m recognised for on Silvertails, a hashtag , who’d of thought!!!
