Lachlan Metcalfe

I guess instead of having one 47-year-old halfback we've decided to stock up on 18-year-old halves. Which is fine, but how long are their necks?

[Also assuming he's Luke's brother?]
He’s actually Blake Metcalfe’s younger brother — no relation to Luke Metcalf from the Warriors. Blake’s been in our system the last few years playing Flegg, mostly at fullback but has filled in the halves a bit too.

This bloke Lachlan turns 18 next year — he played Harold Matts (U17s) for the Roosters this season. We’ve now got a solid little group of young halves around that SG Ball age: Tyler Melrose, Beau Alexander, and Onitoni Large. I believe all those guys are 18 or turning 18, and we’ve also obviously got Joey Walsh who turned 19 this year.

Wouldn’t be surprised if one or two of these younger halves isn’t there next year with the signing of this Metcalfe — that’s quite an abundance of halves all around the same age.

Blake played a couple of Cup games at fullback too this year I think.

Yep initially signed a 3 year deal.

Doesn't mean he couldn't be released for Rugby but I'd be surprised
No doubt a bit of a tricky time coming up over the next couple of years , trying to accommodate Fogarty , Brooks , Walsh and Large for essentially 2 halves positions
As anticipated , maybe the expectation that Large could slot into a centre role , particularly with Garrick maybe on the move after next season
Large has that bit of an unknown element on how he may handle the additional intensity of top level N R L , especially defensively but obviously , has heaps of natural ability
Walsh , apart from his brief stint in that final season game , obviously did have quite a few hit outs in the N S W cup and generally has apparently done quite well
Maybe Large has many of the attributes of a Koula or Weekes and a really good player in the making so here is hoping from a Manly perspective , can go on with it longer term as a Manly i st grader

2 halves positions.

I think the donkeys have shown the importance of halves / hooker depth.

4 halves was only just enough

Onitoni barely played this year due to injury. Let's see how he shapes up in 2026.
If he does prefer rugby ... then fair enough. Some very talented players aren't up for the physical challenge of NRL (or at least, they just prefer to make their money somewhere slightly less challenging).
