Laurie Daley

Probably no different to Joey Johns being a 'halfs " consultant for Manly in 2013- 14 or so but with Daley just having a bit more of an overarching role
But it has now been blocked , not sure .
Maybe a not insignificant amount of coin to have Daley on board so club looks like it has no problem allocating additional outlay there but Ennis has moved on now ?
Guess it is just like a form of student tutoring but depending on the actual role again no doubt
Hardly rate it as a real pivotal development but may help in the overall scheme of things with better team performance levels

On the Big Sports Breakfast this morning, Daley advised that he has not signed with Manly. He said he had so far only had a brief telephone call & was looking at catching up with Seispoon today to discuss the so-called role over a coffee. Daley had no idea what the role's duties were, the number of hours required per week etc.

The reporter appears to have jumped the gun by a long margin.

I say it's fair game to have an opinion on Daley be it good , bad or otherwise....but FFS at least give the bloke a chance :whew:

Before a ball is kicked I know 1 thing 100%, just his presence gives Manly a better place to be for young talent across the country and as SOO coach, no doubt has great "inside" contact of 'Great players" so this alone, is a positive imo.
Also on his coaching abilities, do ppl realise he has not 1, but another 3-4 decision makers around the SOO camp in players ears and giving direction pre game.
The reason I state this (which is fact), I personally feel if he won the series 2-1 or lost 2-1, he is only a fraction of the outcome as listed as head coach and this is not the guide you fully judge by on Daley's ability at all, though is fair to 'consider" in some respects.
He was a gun player, which does not always make a great coach and an elite competitor, which does not necesarily make him a great motivator....but really feel it's maybe a bit fairer to reserve opinions till we see what he brings to the table....that's if he evens joins Manly at all....

I don’t understand this decision it makes no sense. Daley’s latest coaching stints saw NSW lose two origin series.

You do understand he is not coaching?

Think of it like the conductor of a band, sometimes they can't play an instrument. But he might just have some ideas that help our coaching team, god knows they need it.

It's just 30 years too late in my opinion. But I can't wait to see Liz in the Manly colours.

I know a good Daley story that involves a girl known as mudflaps.

If he helps than great.

Why is Seibold spending his time chasing a “sounding board”. How about chasing a decent defensive coordinator instead? And if he really needs a sounding board, surely an experienced NRL coach would be more valuable than a part time rep coach who doesn’t have the greatest record at that.

Sure, let’s give him a chance, but the thinking behind all this raises plenty of question marks. Smacks of Seibs already interviewing for his replacement, and finding someone who will accept the coaching gig with him as Head of Football. IMHO.
