Our backline is too strong to not carry one of them on the bench. I think Koula is probably the best suited to it. He could come on as a roving lock against tired defenses and use his speed around the ruck to create some havoc.

Realistically though, injuries will all but guarantee that they rotate in and out of the lineup.
I think Talau could do a job off the bench also

Max you silly sausage. I wasn't talking about goal kicking. And reubs ain't quick anymore.

Go to bed Jessica!
You make me laugh! Garrick isn’t quick lol. Brbo is a speedster. I think you need to get a grip mate. You obviously have a Trbojevic love fantasy mate. I don’t bone up at the name Trbojevic like you do. Put both on the market & Garrick would be picked up in a second. Brbo would have to emphasise his surname to even get a look in. I actually do actually have a clue about rugby league……maybe not as professional as you are on the subject Karen!

Hey Max, why do you keep posting like this?

Get a grip.

If Manly were in a grand final and had Ben Trboijevic at centre instead of Reuben Garrick I would be much happier.

That's my opinion. You clearly have no idea about rugby league and are just one of these blokes who needs a sense of familiarity, likes to put the jersey on on a Saturday and feel included.

I get that fella.

Good luck mate.

Garrick is a terrible centre. And death comes for us all.

This is undeniable, even if you do have a poster of Ruby Dooby Doo above your bed kid.
Lolol…..Manly in a grand final! With Garrick in the team yeah, with Brbo nowhere near a grand final. My opinion! Now go to sleep with your Brbo boxers on.

HOPPA GIVES MANLY TURBO HEADACHE

Tongan fullback Lehi Hopoate is the future at Manly and too talented to miss out on a Round 1 spot.

His battle to earn selection will be one of the most intriguing storylines of the pre-season.

Coach Anthony Seibold has already declared a mooted move into the centres for fullback Tom Trbojevic would not happen.

But Trbojevic showed on Sunday, and like he always does at representative level, that given a roving role he could handle a switch into the centres to make way for Hopoate. Hopoate has also shown during the Pacific tests he is up to the task defensively at fullback. Seibold needs to find a way for both to be there in round one.

Sticking with Trbojevic at the back will put Hopoate in a pre-season battle for a spot in the outside backs alongside the likes of Jason Saab, Tolutau Koula, Reuben Garrick and Tommy Talau. It also means Seibold will have to make one of the biggest selection calls of the summer.

No doubt with injuries always occurring that I'm sure whoever misses out initially won't miss out for long!

For sure, the best way forward for me is to have Hoppa at left wing and Turbo at the back, Turbo is too good with the ball and that’s an area of Hoppa’s game that will get better by playing with elite players like Turbo.

Hi Dion, it would be nice to know who authored this piece.:)

In turn, you can get the site owner into trouble if you do not attribute the article (or a link) to the author and publisher.

I think Hoppa to FB is an inevitable move just a question of when you press the trigger. Lots of benefits here. Firstly just in preserving Tom as far less running required at centre v FB. Also he seems much more comfortable at Centre...less pressure less focus?? Definitely running like his old self in that position. Secondly in securing Lehi longer term to the club. I think this would be a massive carrot to keep him at the club long term. Thirdly in potentially re-casting Tom's $$$ contract value and shifting the difference over to Lehi and / or a new buy. Fourthly, just in defence I think Lehi is far better than Tom. There is also no reason why Tom cannot guide / mentor Lehi from a centre position. Would be a very smart move for 25 imo.

This would be a premiership winning backline. We just then need a premiership winning pack of forwards.

Sometimes you just have to take the next step. IMO Tom will be harder for sides to defend against playing centre and roaming in attack. This would see him him get the ball in space more often ands solves our leaking defence out wide. Tom is a superior defender in the centres to Rueben.

Hoppa to full back should have happened last season. He's been wasted on the wing . Too much talent with defence and bomb taking and reading the play.

What about koula/hoppa on the bench

1. Turbo
2. Saab
3. Talau
4. Hoppa/koula
5. Garrick

14. Koula/hoppa

Seems to be an injury to outside backs nearly every game which gives us good cover & spark off the bench....

And yes I realise this leaves us a forward short but generally the last forward barely gets any minutes anyway
Any thoughts on talau moving into the 2nd row? Big enough, defends well and reads the play well. May solve a problem for us and if we have an injury to an outside back he moves straight in.

I’d look at giving Talau a go at Lock! Can ball play, good defence, quicker than Jrbo, taller than Jrbo although lighter. He’s taller than Cam Murray & similar weight!
Trbo
Saab
Garrick
Koula
Lehi
Brooks
DCE
Paseka
Simpkin
Taukei’aho
Olakau’atu
Bully
Talau
Res: out of Croker, Aloiai, Sipley, Brown, Jrbo, Navale
Just a suggestion dependant on who else we sign.
