The rumour has been for a while Lockyer would retire, Bennett would go back to Brisbane, Lockyer would be his assistant for a few years then have the gig

That was in the Bronco Mail as well Stu, and the next page "Bronco's to get their man"...who knows, where ever he goes he'll be on about 1 or 2 million dollars a year....!

Can't see Bennett going to the Rabbits.  Way to many egos there already thinking they know all.

Call me biased but in my view Beaver was more of a gentleman and somewhat more of an ornament to the game. But we all know he wont get the same accolades as Lockyer.
  Exactly!

I agree on the sentiment but even the most ardent Manly fan has to admit Lockyer's representative career sh!t's all over Beaver's. He deserves the accolades because he has done it at the highest level consistently for a long time. Little wonder he has, or will, break most of the records in our game.

From a lot of stuff I have heard, If Lockyer resided in Sydney, you would have heard a lot more about his antics in the newspapers  lol

He resided in Sydney briefly.... at Wendell Sailors house the weekend he got busted for doing coke ;)

Then im biased. I suspect Beavers off field record is unblemished in comparison.

I dare say you are right, but when it comes to fawning all over "legends" the media don't give a flying about off field performance. Look at Druggy Johns, you'd swear he was an altar boy so little is mentioned about it now.

To be real!!  The only reason why Lockyer has stayed a 1 club player is because he's been in the Thoroughbred's pocket all these years.I'm sure if a better offer come along he would have p#*sed off long ago.

They have to repay him somehow for only playing for 250K per year, what better way than make him the coach and give him whatever they want.

[/quote]  Only because Lockyer is a Qld'er and therefore in a shallower talent pool that gave him opportunity and loyalty.  Beaver should have played for NSW many more times, but their culture is deficient.

Yes I do hope it's tongue in cheek, the "Thoroughbreds" pay Lockyer, he'd be on $600-$800 a year in reality.

I'll put in a big call here Broncos to make the Grand Final hopefully against us.
The NRL would be laughing all the way to the bank if this was the case :
1) Locky will get the coverage that Beaver got for the 2008 Grand Final (must be  time to watch that again)
2) Snake basically doing what Carney did at the back end of last year

I'll miss Lockyer...ever since i started following footy which was 95...

I remember seeing Lockyer play against Manly up in brisbane in 96 which Ridgey kicked the ball out of D Smith's hand before scoring...

I knew Locky was going to be special...just a **** goalkicker as well though.

He was also poorly utilised in the rep scene.  His best games in rep football came about for Australia in the world less Super League players.  Bozo was the coach and new how to use him.  Result was he killed it.

Viva la Beaver
