Journey Man
Tired, angry and hot to trot
After four months training the Eagles can’t wait to play: Barrett

IN JUST his third year as a head coach Trent Barrett is proving to be one of the most innovative and refreshing in the NRL.

The Sea Eagles coach took to the lush playing surface at Lottoland on Thursday morning to simulate a fullon opposed training session.

Barrett went to great lengths to create a matchday atmosphere. He even had taped crowd noises in the background.

With the playing squad now in its fourth month of summer training, Barrett says his players are tired, angry and hot.

“They’ve had enough … they just want to play now,” he said.

Simulated matches weekly at Lottoland have been a welcome change in training for the squad.

The squad will travel to Wollongong on Monday for a week-long training camp to end preparation for the upcoming official trials against Cronulla and the Sydney Roosters.

FOX BOSS A FAN

IT IS not well known but new Foxtel chief executive Patrick Delany is an avid Sea Eagles fan.

He loves to slip into the crowd at Lottoland to watch the Sea Eagles.

Delany, a close friend of Manly chairman Scott Penn, takes up his new role after many years as CEO of Fox Sports Australia.

SEASON PREVIEWS

MANLY fans looking for a preview of what side Manly will field for the opening round of the premiership against the Newcastle Knights should check out the trial at Gosford on Saturday, February 24, against the Sydney Roosters.

Coach Barrett will pick his top side for the match.

And as many players as possible will be given an opportunity in the first trial against Cronulla on February 17.

ROBBO’S WATCHING

MANLY’S 2008 grand final three-try hero Michael Robertson will be spending most of the 2018 season in the NRL’s much-talked-about bunker.

Robertson was recently appointed to the match review committee, whose members have the job of watching every moment of every match in the premiership.

SYDNEY’S BEST TEAM

MANLY fans were entitled to be walking around with their chests out this week after a table measuring the success of every club in the past 10 years of finals football was produced.

It showed the Sea Eagles as clearly the top performing club in Sydney – and a close second to the Melbourne Storm in overall figures.

Manly’s record of 141 wins and 99 losses produced a 58.8 per cent record — ahead of the Queensland juggernauts, the Broncos and Cowboys.

Keep an eye on Kelepi

SO, who will be the Sea Eagles’ shock, out-of-leftfield selection for the season kickoff against Newcastle on Friday, March 9? Several players are training the house down and have pushed their claims by virtue of hard work and determination. But none more so than our powerhouse utility forward Kelepi Tanginoa.

Interesting article.

Kelepi called a utility forward .... a new one .... but I have thought him to small for a full-time prop, but as a backrower/front rower I think he adds a fair bit.

It appears we have a little healthy competition this year . More so than last year .
I don't think the coach will tattoo any mediocre players number on their backs and make it their own all year .
It would be hard for the coach to deny some the Exceptional Eager Eagles an opportunity .

Or Mow the lawn if his beachside house & get a decent surf in at his old local break at mads

I reckon there will be beers or a feed Shellharbour pub during the week
Nice pub , nice views, nice food . Enjoy feathered friend

Wow we have some new faces "training the house down" - Croker, Jetski, Thommo, and now Kelepi. Seems everyone we've signed are guns @:p

.... meanwhile at @lolparra they are being told that their new recruit is a fat slug that hates training ... go fiqure....

I like our seemingly comraderi and know TB’ s traits of determination, class and desire to be good is rubbing off on our team

I can’t say it enough though

A fully fit & confident Dylan Walks is our X factor and can take us to a shot to take it out with our share of luck

Our guys like playing with him & our opposition worry about him

We need to get solid while he us out

It is an excellent pub, except the locals and barstaff seem to loathe all outsiders, and especially Manly supporters.
