Not many recent vists to Leichhardt. Last was way back in 2007. Tough place to get out of with a win.

I am really excited about this as I haven't been back since the 90's :)

It is a sister venue to Brookie - too bad that there are zero seats available in the Stand :( Lets hope that the rains will be gone by Sunday.

WOW, we haven't played @ Leichardt since 2007?!
No wonder it seems a while..

I've been monitoring the draws for the last 5 seasons looking for this, finally great to see a Sunday 3pm game there, will head down Sun morning and pub trans it to the ground.

Any plans for a gathering @ Manly Leagues club @ Brookie prior?
And/or a bus from there to Leichardt?

Or Manly fans heading to either of the leagues clubs @ Balmain or Five Dock prior (both of which don't look real handy to the ground on foot, er if it's even open @ Balmain?), or some pub nearby?

Looks like tickets for that match are via Proticket - $30 "bronze", I guess that's General Admission incl. the Hill?

best legal team in the comp that year!

One should also point out that the man of the match in the 2007 games was also on debut and has not missed a match since.

Any guesses?

Ballin?

How many teams could boast 6 players still in there lineup from 2007?

Saw on Twitter that under Toovey coaching the Sea Eagles have never been beaten 13+.

Lost 22-4 at Penrith in 2012
Lost 32-6 at Newcastle in 2012
Lost 40-12 in Melbourne in 2012

Manly were however the ONLY team in the NRL which did not have a 13+ loss in season 2013.

Matt Ballin can't be the answer. He didn't play in the 2007 Grand Final. Monaghan was hooker.
Ballin only played 8 first grade games in 2007.
He has not missed a game since the start of the 2008 season though.
You're welcome.

With thanks to google search.

Wests Tigers 8 Manly 19

Manly's Michael Monaghan turned back the clock as he filled in seamlessly for injured halfback Matt Orford tonight, creating two of the Sea Eagles' three tries in their 19-8 win over the Wests Tigers in wild conditions at Leichhardt Oval.

A renowned mud-runner, former No.7 Monaghan cleverly switched the attack to send Anthony Watmough over in just the sixth minute and, in the final minute of the first half, kicked for winger Michael Robertson to score.

A storm hit Leichhardt 10 minutes before kick-off and rain bucketed down on the players during the warm-up and for periods during the match.

This left the flashy Tigers struggling against the grinders from the peninsula and their high error count didn't help.

Manly scored three tries to one with Jamie Lyon booting three goals from five attempts.

After Robertson's try had given Manly a 10-8 lead at the break, a big southerly arrived at just the right time for the Sea Eagles who began the second half with the wind at their backs.

Watmough was denied a second try in just the fifth minute of the second half when video referee Chris Ward came up with a controversial obstruction ruling.

Manly replacement Glenn Hall was adjudged to have held Tigers hooker Robbie Farah out of the defence but the incident appeared to have little impact on the play as another clever Monaghan ball sent Watmough over.

Two minutes later stand-in hooker Matt Ballin dived through some ordinary defence and Lyon converted to take Manly's lead out to 16-8.

They were denied by Ward again in the 57th when Luke Williamson claimed he had grounded a grubber but the lock's feet were over the dead-ball line.

Robertson's 40th minute four-pointer was the difference at the break after Watmough's early try and the Tigers' reply in the 31st through Farah.

Farah brilliantly gathered in a Marshall chip and scooted past two Manly defenders to score, Marshall's conversion giving the Tigers the lead for the only time in the match at 8-6.

The Tigers had looked set to take that to the break but an unmarked Robertson was on the spot to pluck Monaghan's cross-field kick out of the air and dive over to make it 10-8.

The Manly Sea Eagles have battled the conditions to record a 19-8 victory over the Wests Tigers in their round two NRL clash at Leichhardt Oval this afternoon.

Michael Monaghan and fill-in hooker Matt Ballin forged a makeshift combination in the absence of the injured Matt Orford to orchestrate the scrappy victory in the rain-affected match.

Ballin crossed for the only try of the second stanza after the Sea Eagles took a 10-8 lead into the break, with Monaghan rubbing salt into the Tigers' wounds with a cheeky field goal in the dying seconds.

The darty hooker dived over from close range after brawny front rower Brent Kite swooped on a Wests handling error to give the visitors a 16-8 lead with Lyon slotting the conversion attempt.

Ballin then turned in a 40/20 play in the late strages of the game to put the Tigers on the back foot, with a 79th minute penalty shot from Lyon putting the result beyond doubt.

Manly were without injured trio Steve Menzies, Steve Matai and regular number seven Orford but posted first points when Monaghan put Anthony Watmough onto the end of a short-ball for the second rower to barge over in the sixth minute.

The Sea Eagles looked to have had their second just seven minutes later when Lyon crossed in the left-hand corner, but video referee Chris Ward ruled an obstruction had occurred in the lead-up to the try.

Livewire Tigers five-eighth Benji Marshall then put the home side on the board in the 16th minute with a penalty goal to close the gap to four points, before Robbie Farah scored in the 30th minute to level the scores. Farah crossed after collecting a deft chip-kick from Marshall and raced to the line, with the video referee ruling out calls of obstruction and off-side from the Manly players to award the try.

Sea Eagles winger Michael Robertson scored with seconds remaining in the first half to steal a 10-8 lead when he collected a superbly-weighted crossfield bomb from Monaghan.

A few of us are getting the bus to Central then getting the Light Rail out there. Thought we'd try out the new line. It stops a short walk from the ground too.
